New full-timer

Hi all - Just wanted to share my appreciation for this forum and look forward to connecting with the AS clan. I'll be traveling for the better part of this year in my new 20' Safari. My plan is to travel to and up the west coast with some sojourns in the panhandle, nm,and az, then who knows. That's one thing I love about this - i just don't know what wonders await me around the corner, and everyday really is brand new. I've heard many people tell me how crazy I am and try to scare me away , so it's great to have a supportive group like this. I'm most interested in finding big natural beauty and lazy small towns, but will at times need to have internet access, as I am working as I go along. I'll be using this forum regularly for ideas and suggestions of places to land, people to meet. Considering the st. joseph peninsula in the panhandle next. Anybody been? Thanks for being here!

Welcome, brave Airstreamer!

One thing I can say is, you're all over the place--Maine, Florida (the peninsula, right?), Texas (the panhandle), and "up and down the west coast." Have a great time a post lots of photos...

A solo tripper, or do you have a cat for a copilot?

Zep

Hopefully you'll be able to post pictures and information on where you have been and are heading. We love that. Michelle aka thecatsandI does this and it is great fun for those of us currently trapped until the weather clears.

Travel safe, and welcome to the forums

Barry

Welcome to the Forums. We're gald to have you with us.

I assume that the St. Joseph Peninsular in the Panhadle that you are referring to is the one in Florida. It is a beautiful area that is not heavily visited.

Good luck on your journey and safe travels.

Hello Silversnail,
I am new to the forum also. I just purchased a new tow vehicle today, a 2000 E-350, now I just have to find a travel trailer and I will be on the road fulltime also. I plan on heading down to Baja after a few shakedown cruises. I look forward to hearing about your experiences.
I live about 90 miles east of St Joseph, it is a beautiful area. And great this time of year, no crowds. Can get a bit cool and windy, but very nice days in between. Great seafood over there also, hope you like oysters.

I'm new too. I don't have my road-toaster yet, but I'm looking. I get the "you're crazy" thing from people too, so I'm glad this groups here as well. I've loved Airstreams since I was little, now I'm finally going to get one! Not sure about going full time yet, but mulling my options.

Hi janicew - Yes, I've now been living in my airstream since 2007 and just LOVE it...and I love that it's relatively small, too (20 feet). I'm now addicted to exploring and discovering new beautiful places, and it seems like it will take a lifetime to really cover all the places I'd like to go, and spend enough time at each to really absorb it. I've kept an online travel log at:

The Silver Snail :: fulltime roadtrip :: a location-independent, solo woman's full-time RV life in an Airstream trailer

it's a chronological travel log, but I've also tried to include useful resources too. Hope it helps you in some way.

Sharon,
I was just poring over your blog a couple of days ago. My husband (and three pets!) will be starting our full-time adventure in about three months. I'll be working from the road (graphic design/web development). I have learned so much from you and the others who are documenting your experiences). Thanks for all the wisdom you've shared!

Hi snail, welcome aboard.

I have been to many Florida state parks up and down both coasts.
SJs is by far my favorite. 7 miles of ocean side beach, and 7 more
miles of bay side beach. But then again, I like to walk. No traffic noise
off in the distance, and no cell phone. A bit remote, I love it.

Nearest normal size grocery is 20 miles away back in Port St. Joe.
We really like the Sunset Grill in Port St. Joe. Great seafood and good
martinis. Gin of coarse.

Enjoy

Thanks KerriO! Have fun and good luck with your travels! ...hope our paths cross someday...

Sky - Yes, I totally agree! St. Joe's is one of my very favorite Florida SP's too. I did end up going there back in 2008 and hope to return. You just can't go wrong with any of the state parks in Florida. Love 'EM!

Sorry. Nice blog, by the way.

I’m going full time starting in mid-June. Also have had people try to discourage me. Why do people do that? If it doesn’t work out (which I can’t imagine happening but we don’t know until we try, right?) I’ll sell it and get another apartment. I will only regret always wanting to do this and not trying it. Maybe I’ll meet you along the way somewhere, Silversnail.

They try to discourage you because they don't think it would work for them, so it can't work for anyone else or they are just jealous.
