Hmmmm. I am O Positive. Maybe that explains the inordinate fascination all biting insects have with my exposed skin.

We bought Off Deep Woods yesterday. Hate to use the DEET, but hate those skeeters worse.

We are hearing that it is bad year for mosquitoes. Yeaayy! Also that they are actually the Minnesota state bird.

Growing up in Michigan I was told by an old Scout Leader that you only needed to worry about the skeeters when they stopped swarming, and started pulling from one side, because they could carry you off, wedge you into a tree and drain you at their leisure .

Back in the day when kids could run free without fear of being nabbed or whatever, my dad got me to come home when the streetlights came on by saying that the skeeters would carry me off down to the gravel pit and keep me in their "cupboard" to snack on whenever they wanted. Worked till I was about 6.

Even my non-smoking buddies like one lit in the evening up north. It works every bit as well as the mosquito coils.

Another vote for Plaquemines Parrish, but the high Cascades in Oregon can be just as nasty. It's not that they are eating you alive, but they're so thick you literally inhale them.

Yes, we Minnesotans do say that mosquitos are the state bird (officially it's the Cardinal, but what does the gov't know?). I am NOT starting a smoking habit just to fend them off, though. Campfires work just as well....

That's me! I'm a selfish AB (the 'universal acceptor') and everybody wants me as bug bait to keep skeets off them.

I'm thinking CO2 emissions and body temperature make up for what I lack in pregnancy and odorant markers.

Some research shows that mosquitoes don't like those who consume Vitamin B products. I specifically find B3 NIACIN of benifit. You will have to do your own research on this.

"Supplement with one vitamin B-1 tablet a day from April through October. Add 100 mg of B-1 to a B-100 Complex daily during the mosquito season."

The Buzz On Avoiding Mosquitoes

A quote from another site. ===

"Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

http://www.mosquito-patch.com/
they use vitamin B-1 or niacin as the active ingredient. i also take B-complex vitamins and just that reduces the amount of bites i get. i saw the patches at a local sporting goods store and figured they were a gimmick so i bought a couple and used myself as a guinea pig and they really do work just as well as deep-woods with deet. another bonus is they are fine to use with kids, you just have to make sure to put the patch between their shoulder blades where they can't reach to pull them off.
i am a fishing guide in British Columbia and having bug repellent on your hands will repel fish as well so they are a great option for clients too. i also spend time in northern BC where mosquito's have been known to carry away small children and they worked up there too.
another good one is to give someone that you don't like too much a pale yellow t-shirt. for some reason bugs are attracted to the color and will attack that person."

They also swarm those roasting meat on the BBQ, blood thirsty little devils.

A good preventive measure is to buy one of those bug zappers and give it to your neighbor. Then all the mosquitos will be attracted to his yard.
