Insulation tips & tricks

I just bought a Bambi 16 and plan on full-timing in it.

Sometimes nights here in SF can get a little cold. I'm wondering: does anyone insulate the interiors of their airstreams? I was thinking about having a custom-made quilted blanket that I can snap onto the walls during the winter.

• Insulate or close the storage area under bed
• Put refelective sun shields in windows during summer
• Block air from going underneath airstream if possible

Any other insulation tips and tricks?

(FYI: I'm well aware nobody thinks anyone should live in an airstream in the winter. Don't care).

We have covered the floor in our 23FB with soft rubber flooring. See photos below. We also had soft rubber flooring in our 2005 25FB (we spent over 1,300 night in the 25FB in all sorts of weather). This does not only insulate the floor of the trailer, it makes kneeling on the floor to get things out of low storage much more pleasant. We have also used this flooring to line the bed board under the mattress to prevent drafts.

We also used panels of the silver insulation material in the windows when the weather conditions warranted.

San Francisco doesn't generally get very cold; barring the recent cold spell it rarely freezes.

Your primary heat losss with be through convection cells forming against the windows; close-fitting shades or those reflect-x window covers will help and make it feel less drafty. Figure out where your air vents are and how to open & close 'em... and use a down comforter.

I am fulltiming in my 2010 airstream (January, Denver) and am pretty comfortable, temperature wise. I keep it at 72 deg f. My black water hose froze, so I need to work on the outdoor stuff than the indoor. I know my airstream came with a blanket that has got to be thermal. It's so hot I stored it away.
