In preparation for full timing.
As a low budget retiree expecting to be hitting the road full time shortly I am looking at several different aspects for a perspective state of record. Tax free for retired military/government employee and social security, lowest possible cost of license, car tag, trailer tag and insurance premiums.
How are others handling these issues?

In preparation for full timing.
SKP has a good reputation. Just got off phone with a friend running a load into a rig near Livingston right now.
Nice lake, nice state park and US59 into Houston is a pleasure to drive. The easiest major road into or out of that city.
Good threads also on IRV2 as well as Woodall's. There is a quite knowledgable group using Class 8 and MDT to haul the really big New Horizon and other premium 5ers. Some serious full timers, and some very good tech articles on that forum.
The organization will send you a package of information. I have one from just a couple of years ago.

I guess I am just being dense. What is SKP, IRV2, class 8, MDT. Sounds like you are talking about commercial truck drivers and that does not describe me.

Escapees = SKP
Escapees is based in Livingston, TX and offers domicile for full-time RVers.
iRV2.com is another web site operated by the same person who owns Air Forums. Lots of good information on iRV2
There are several threads on Air Forums about full-timing. One of the WBCCI board members and frequent Air Forums contributor has a web site describing their full-timing lifestyle:

Do you have healthcare already (through the VA?) or are you Medicare-eligible? If not and therefore you have to purchase your own healthcare, currently (in 2015) there are only a few states where you can buy a plan good for full-time travelers.

To continue, South Dakota, Texas, or Florida are currently the best domicile states for full-timers. Only Texas or Florida, if you have to buy your own health insurance.

Have a look at their forums. Not everything about SKP is obvious as to value thereof. Some of it becomes evident in online conversations.
And some of them have very interesting rigs. And the tech articles that shine light on anyone's experience for living on the road.

Florida has one up on Texas over vehicle registration costs. Plus no state inspections, unlike Texas.

We thought about WY since we have a daughter and s-i-l living there. Unfortunately, you have to have a physical address with your name attached to it, so we passed. We went with Your Best Address in Sioux Falls, SD.

No chance of that ever happening. I was once forced to live there courtesy of the Navy. The only think I left behind when I finally escaped was an ex wife. Kalifornia was welcome to her.
