How do you handle your mail?

Hello friends. I'm having an Airstream built so I can take healthcare up to the rural parts of Northern CA over the next 3 years. I need to know the best way to manage mail and a permanent address. I don't have a permanent home- that's what the Airstream will be. So, I'd love to know the best solutions you've come up with to manage this situation.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Hello, Welcome to Air Forums. You've come to the right place for all things Airstream. After you take delivery and have questions about the trailer this forum is the right place to start.

Do some searching on Air Forums and on the internet in general regarding domicile and mail. There are many options. One of the most straightforward solutions, not necessarily the best (but good), is to become an Escapees member and have your domicile and mail through them. They've been in business a long time and were founded for just the reason you listed - no home, but needed to register somewhere and needed to receive mail. Escapees provides domicile in Texas, Florida and South Dakota.

Due to the nature of your business, it may be appropriate to get a local address from which to receive and send mail. That is a bit different requirement than the objectives that full time travelers have.

Any chance you will be working for a healthcare provider that can help with a mailbox at their facility?

Some folks are able to have mail forwarded to the RV park where they stay. Convenient if possible and it meets your lifestyle requirements.

Some folks choose to use a mailbox business that provides storage and forwarding services.

You might choose to have two different addresses. One for business correspondence and another for personal mail.

Good luck with your investigation. Pat

Jennifer, sounds like you are getting ready for some adventures! Having your business mail sent to the clinic might be a good idea IF you are going to be there for some time. Having everything sent to a mail service might be easier, though.

Are you going to stay in California, or will you be going to other States? If you are going to stay in California, then you will keep your driver's license and vehicle registrations there. If you are going to be working in other States you might want to give up your California domicile and pick another State that is more tax friendly.

As for mail services, there are quite a few to pick from. You do NOT need to be domiciled in a particular State to use a mail service from there. For example, you can keep your California domicile and use the Escapees mail service, which is located in Texas. If you are going to change your domicile it would probably make sense to pick a mail service located in that State. You can, of course, see if there is a mail forwarding service in California if you are going to stay in California.

Cool How Do You Handle Your Mail?

If you can avoid it, don't establish domicile in CA. They will track you down, like MN, for income taxes & big ticket sales taxes until you live in another state for at least 183 days in a calendar year!!!

We've been using Escapees Mail Service over nine years continuously. Zero problems, highly recommend. We advise them a week before we want our mail to arrive, they almost always beat that. Most of the time we have them send to GENERAL DELIVERY. Works at many, but not all, US Post Offices.
