Has anyone upgraded their mattress? Suggestions?
We are looking to upgrade our queen short bed. The memory foam mattress that it (2015 International Signature 28) came with is less than desirable after a couple nights on it. I'd love to hear if anyone has tried Sleep Number RV, or anything else other than memory foam. What RV mattress do you have? Do you like it?

We love our Sleep Number queen. As comfortable as our home bed, if not more so.

We haven't met a factory RV mattress we loved, so we've upgraded every one we've had. As for sleep number.... had one of those supplied in a new Class A diesel pusher we bought and couldn't get rid of it fast enough... it's just a glorified air bag. Some may like that. We did not.
Our preference is for traditional pocketed coil design with layers of various types of top foams (pillow top) giving a mattress that has some "life" to it, rather than a thud, and readily and softly conforms for sleeping on our sides and back.
If you visit a good traditional mattress store, they will surely have something suitable to your particular preferences.

We also love our Sleep Number with some extra latex foam on it.

I purchased a foam mattress - without memory foam on top. I chose this as we have a 25FB and it needs to be cut at the corners. I managed to keep most of the 80" length after cutting and it still used standard 60x80 queen sheets. I don't like foam generally so I purchased a good quality non memory foam padded topper (some call it a feather bed but it doesn't have feathers it has fiber cells) it is a super comfortable combination and has good support for my bad back. It is not hot like some foam mattresses or toppers due to the padded cover. The cost of the mattress is much less than a custom one and with a good quality topper the total was less than $400. I cut the foam with a serrated knife which was easy. The hardest part was reinstalling the mattress cover which had zippers on it so it can be removed to make the cutting of the foam easier.

Parklane Mattresses are a great source of USA made mattresses. They are regarded as one of the most responsible mattress manufacturers. They even have an RV specific site!!!

Since you're considering the Sleep Number RV mattress, visit any Sleep Number store. They will have models on the floor that are very similar to both the Premier and Deluxe RV mattresses they sell. The salespeople at the store we visited knew their products quite well and were very helpful. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted figuring out which settings were most comfortable and if this would work for us. Delivery time is very reasonable-- ours arrived in nine days. If you choose a Sleep Number bed for your Airstream and aren't in a hurry, you might wait for a sale.
You are well aware just how tight the space is around the foot of the bed in your 28. The ability to get a short queen with the radius-cut corners from Sleep Number and a few other RV mattress manufacturers, is definitely a good thing.
We haven't installed our Sleep Number bed yet. It arrived on Monday and our Airstream is currently at the local service center. The Sleep Number was a bit of a compromise, as no one I contacted could make what we wanted. We'd added a 3" gel foam topper to the mattress that Airstream included in the trailer, but it was no good. I'm looking forward to not waking up in pain every two hours!

We upgraded ours with one from CamperPedic. I think we went with the "Cozy" model and selected a short queen with radius cut corners. It fits great and is so much more comfortable than the stock mattress. Home Page | CamperPedic Mattresses

Replacement Mattress
We replaced our short queen with a queen from Rocky Mountain Mattress. They cut it to fit perfectly. I built a short extension to the bottom of the bed to support the extra mattress length. We used the mattress every night during out 3-1/2 month, 10,000 mile summer trip. The mattress is all we had hoped and more.

So can all the companies take the twin bed mattress Airstream drawings and custom make mattresses. I know Rocky Mountain can.

We put in a longer mattress base so we could have a full size queen tempurpedic mattress. Not as much room to walk around the bed, but it works for us.

Ditto again. Go for the Premier short queen radius. Much better than the Deluxe. Holds pressure well in case you are boondocking without 110 for a couple of days.

We have a non brand name memory foam mattress in our AS and I don't know how I ever slept before it these last two decades. I live on painkillers. I have arthritis in both hips, chondromalacia patella in both knees, and nerve damage that presents as pain down the side and front of my right thigh. I'm going to save up money and buy one for our queen size bed at home. This mattress is my lifesaver.

Like above, added about 6" memory foam and used an electric serrated knife to 'trim' the corners ... length is just right to add enough 'length', yet is soft enough to walk past without being pushed over.
