Generator and Solar Advice

Why Hello Good Folks. We recently moved our newly acquired 1970 Silverstreak to a piece of property and are going to renovate it to go off the grid. Unfortunately during the renovation stage we won't have power so we need to acquire a generator that will serve us during the renovation and will later serve as a back up generator for our solar system.
Thus, my question is two-fold

1) What sort of generator would be suitable for such duality (preferably a beast of the quiet nature...)

2) Any advice for a solar system to install? We're looking at lights, laptop charging, wireless router, speakers, water pump... not too crazy.

We're newbies, so the learning curve is steep but our enthusiasm and sweat equity are valuable!

Thanks for any help!

I'd look at either a Yamaha 2400, or two Honda 2000s if you want to run an A/C. Solar... Zamp or AM Solar. At least that's what I would consider. I have a Zamp 150 watt panel, use a small Yamaha 1000 as a backup.

You'll find lots of us have the two Honda 2000's configuration. You need two to run the AC, but one will more than handle recharging, etc. Check out the AM Solar website. Great operation.

We use two Honda 2000 inverters but you may find that cumbersome during the renovation. Maybe you should buy (or rent) one Honda 3000 during that phase when weight isn't an issue. Then sell it and get two Honda 2000i generators, which are more manageable when traveling. Just a thought.

We have a factory installed solar system, which works nicely in connection with the generators. I'm no expert, but I suggest buying a quality system with has much charging capacity as possible since you will be off the grid frequently. Solar is only a nicety for us but much appreciated when off shore power.

Thank you all so much for the advice.
Martian I appreciate your advice about dealing with the higher load for construction. I think we're going to borrow a big 10k generator for construction and buy a Honda 2000 for the trailer long-term. We're on a bit of a budget so the beauty of the Honda is you can add to it easily if needed!
Thanks for all the input!
