Denver

I lost my job in December. I had a job interview in Denver last week that may work out. However, I don't want to sell my house in Minnesota right now - due to the collapse of the housing market, and I'm not sure how the new job will work out long term.

One option would be to find a place to park my trailer and live in it for a few months to see how the job works out without making a 1 year apartment lease commitment. So I searched the Internet for possible RV parks within commuting distance of Denver. Does anyone know anything about Prospect RV Park in Wheat Ridge, or perhaps others that might be tolerable? I don't want to live in a slum!

Camping west of Denver

Dan, I have driven through the Prospect campground a few times, it is not a slum by any measure. They do pack them in real close however. The park is right on Clear Creek with a green belt and paved trails. My preference is Dakota Ridge RV Park on Colfax Ave. just a few miles away. If fact I will be staying there for about a week the end of May.

Depending on where in Denver you are needing to commute to, I'd try Dakota Ridge. Even though I live near by, I stayed there once and it was quite nice. I know that they do cater to full timers, but I'm not sure how reasonably priced you are looking for in the longer term.

For shorter term stays of up to 14 days, try Chatfield State Park, $22/night for full hookups.

Thanks for the reference to Dakota Ridge. My work would be in the west Dever area, so the location would be fine. They list a monthly rate of $600 for winter, which is fine. However, the weekly rate of $264.60 applies from May through September - thats $1145/mo which is pretty steep!

Like I said, I'm not sure how affordable.

If you don't mind a little commute, look at Idaho Springs and Central City RV park offerings.

Here is one in Idaho Springs, never stayed there but it looked nice from the road:
Cottonwood RV Colorado - RV Camping in the heart of the Colorado Rockies

Also, after it opens in May, you can try Chief Hosa in Evergreen and just 10 minutes from the west side of Denver, right off of I-70. However, I'm not sure they have sewer dump there :

Here is another one, operated by the city of Golden:

Chief Hosa looks nice, and the web site says they have a dump station. Weekly rate is $156 (or about $675/mo). I don't know if they have a limit on the number of nights you can stay though.

Dan, Dakota Ridge is a nice place. There's another one across Colfax that is very crammed in. Can't remember the name, but I'd avoid it. Chief Hosa was closed last week when we were in the area. It's in a Denver Mountain Park and run by concessionaires. Winter can last a long, long time in the "foothills" (really are mountains, elev. there probably over 8,000') and I'm not sure when it opens. I have a vague memory of a 2 week limit, but may be wrong. Welcome to Colorado.

(Westfalia, I got the LED's for the main cabin, same as you, and really like the difference.)

I know this one has a 14 day limit...but it's very nice, right on the river that runs through town and about 3 blocks from my office. We "go for walks" there at lunch time...

I think the 14 day limit takes affect sometime around May 15, we just came off a 2 yr fulltiming in steamboat and stayed here for the last month. It's a little cheaper than Dakota Ridge I believe and a great spot, on the river, close to the rec center, close to town and hwy 58 or 6. Neighbors were great, and traffic on the walking path wasn't bad.

I forgot about camping at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. They advertise RV parking on their big sign and are located in Lakewood very near most of the above campgrounds.

$20/day

Update... the job in Denver is still a possibility, but I have not received an offer yet. I discovered that Prospect RV Park is only 2 blocks from the office! At $550/mo plus electricity, that is where I will stay for a while... if this job happens.

I have been out of work for 3 months now, so I need something to happen soon!
