I'm about to be 39 (again) and she hasn't yet reached thirty....

We are both insurance adjusters, and are frequently the youngest ones in the park!

Not going completely full-time yet (nor do we have an Airstream, yet) but we live for months at a time in our 32' travel trailer. Dallas is home base, but we've lived in Alabama for three months this year and are now in Arizona for a lengthy stay....

We're about to ditch the house and go full time in a 42-foot 5'er.

Never thought I'd actually do it, but you only go around once!

Road Rash

Well when I started I WAS IN MY 40’s!

I’ve been living on the road in my 27’ Classic for 11 years. I’m an artist and single.

Some great advice here and some of the heavy weights have already wade in.

Verzion is the way to go for wireless; you might want to add a wilison amplifier and external antenna. Solar will certainly cut down on your living expense and allow you to boon dock. I went solar 3 years ago and love it. Also, pick up a Catalytic heater for the cold and a REAL box fan, for when it’s hot.

Airstreams don’t really have a lot of storage so be sure to consider the largest bed and cab you can get (I use a 1 ton BOX TRUCK to carry around my motorcycle, large canvases and aux freezer)

I’m sure you will do just fine, and remember, THE JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION.

See ya down the road

What's a "REAL box fan", and "aux freezer"?

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

A freezer that will hold an aux? Or possibly auxiliary freezer. Box fan, would be an electric fan in a box also called a window fan. I would prefer a small table fan myself.

I looked up "real box fan" and it got a porn site. I never heard of a camper going down the road hauling a freezer. Was this covered during the day I missed at camper school? Is it a small freezer? What powers it?

big box

Artstream has a big Ford box truck...like a big "basement". Carries all of his supplies, a small chest freezer, lots of batteries, and his motorcycle. I think it is a great pantry too. He has gone solar and is off the grid alot. If you are planning on boondocking you need to heed his advice! He is the one to talk to about what you need to do! He has a classy set up.
AND we love his tee shirts! Awesome artist!

I still like the idea of a freezer that will hold an ox. No matter how you spell it.

Hey Dave,

Haven't had time to read through the entire thread, but I'm planning on doing the same with my BF and we are both still in our 20's. Let's stay in touch, trade tips, etc. You on Twitter? I'm @natlhq. Our travelog is in my signature.

Best,
A

Hey all, thought I'd stop in to post. I'm 33, and my husband and I (who is significantly older—I won't mention his age, but this seems to be a trend in this thread, too). We've been dreaming about doing this for about five years now, but circumstances have prevented us from doing so. Now, some unfortunate circumstances (namely the housing market and the job market) have put us in the fortunate position to finally take advantage of this dream we've been having. Let's just say, we're about to blow our perfect credit to smithereens in exchange for a full-timing airstream dream and freedom from an increasingly stressful situation.

I'm a freelance Art Director and Web Designer and Developer, so my transition into working while full-timing will be easy. My husband's experience lies in project management and executive assistance, so he's looking into Virtual Assistance and is also looking forward to just taking odd jobs, workamping, etc. He loves to meet people and wants to try out whatever's available (after working in a cube for years and years).

This is the week we've finally committed to searching out the airstream to buy. We're looking for a used International Signature Series 27'FB or 28'. We bought our tow vehicle about a month ago. So we're committed, and just getting all the ducks in a row to launch.

I've been obsessively researching this lifestyle for years. I've been lurking on these forums for a long time, but not posting much, just absorbing info. But, I've compiled a list of blogs from folks pulling off similar things to what we want to do. I'm posting it below in case it's helpful to anyone. I recognize a lot of people on this thread from my list!

Nice compilation!

I was following a couple who remodeled a fiver -- they were in their twenties or thirties. From what I can remember, they took lots of great photos and of particular interest to me was their remodeling projects.....they took out the dinette and couch and set up a work station for both of them. Then they took out the bunks and installed slat walls to hang their climbing gear, biking, kayaking equipment....

Now I can't find their blog and I want to show my honey the equipment room.... any ideas???

Hey, thanks for the mention! My wife and I run Weaselmouth.com (listed as "One young couple's Airstream International CCD travel trailer RV adventure" above). While we're not technically fulltimers yet, we plan on moving into our new 27fb early next year - January to be exact. We'll start out stationary due to my job, but our hope is to get on the road as soon as we can!

Everyone please feel free to stop by and check us out - while you're there, sign up for our newsletter and RSS feed. We have some really great things planned for Weaselmouth.com next year!

Atfulldraw, I don't recall ever seeing that blog. Though I definitely haven't had my eyes out for the renovators— my husband and I are definitely not that industrious or handy!

dekew, glad to see another one of us here. I can't believe you're not already on my list. I distinctly remember your blog because I loved the design of it.
