I found this AS on EBay getting no bids, and then being re-listed. It had damage on the rear tail light and the door was hit along with the door frame. I called the seller and made an offer. After seeing it the next day I decided to take it. Had to remove the 4 wheels for clean up, purchased new tires and did a brake inspection before driving it home that September morning.
Within a week I had it gutted except for the shower pan and vanity.
I made the repairs and rebuilt the interior with cherry wood replacing all the vinyl covered luan. Purchased new fridge and AC and built a new queen bed and L shaped couch.
We also had “Silver Threads” make beautiful curtains and upholstery cushion covers for the sofa. ( High Recommend), thanks Tammy.
With this accomplished, Cathy and myself planned on leaving New Years day for the Can Opener rally in Destin at Topsail. That day it was raining hard with gale force winds.
We planned to leave the next morning at 5 AM but as the evening went on we weren’t ready to sleep, so left at 1AM to avoid the traffic from Long Island NY to NJ, found a rest stop and slept a few hours.
Made our next stop in NC at about 7:30 pm at a KOA. Up at 5 am for our trip to Topsail arrived at 9:30 pm (about 1425 miles). Had to backup for the first time and in the dark at that, that’s when we met Becky helping guide us back, 3rd time I got it!
Had a great time, it was fun meeting fellow air streamers, sharing experiences and making new friendships.
At Topsail I had some loose ends to tye up and was probably working more than I should have. I tried to remove the clear coat to apply MetalWax and polish this new toy up, but the clear coat was sticking in places after 4 or 5 applications of paint remover so that delayed the polishing until I could find a better paint remover.
The other thing I did was install Dyna Beads in the tires to balance the wheels, noticed a lot of head scratching among the onlookers.
Well the Dyna Beads worked fine for the rest of the trip. Noticed things were not bounced around as before, when getting back into the trailer after our first stop stop.
Morning of Monday the 8th we were off to Crushed Rock north of Tampa, to see the Manatees.
That was fun but we wanted to get some sun and warmer temps so off to the Everglades RV park outside Miami. Arrived on the 10th at 1:30PM.
Nice place we used it as a base camp to run down to the Keys. At this point we’ve gone about 2300 miles.
Stayed there until the 19th, had perfect weather and hooked up with Phil and Laura Gobie, who we had originally met at Topsail, great people, who helped us further enjoy our Miami visit with a delicious dinner and our first tour of a motorcycle rally. They cranked up their ’68 vintage BMW to drive over, there was about 4-500 bikes there.
On the 19th we went to Marathon Key to pick some things up for our Biz and headed back leaving at 3PM, made it to Savannah Ga that night. Needing to get back ASAP, made an early AM departure to NY, but just tooooo tired, and stopped in Fredericksburg VA for a few hours rest then arrived in NY at 10AM Sunday the 21st.
Now were thinking about Sarasota in Feb and already booked SpringStream in April.
