Travel bars

Are the travel bars over the slide-out really necessary? I never saw them i other Motorhomes.
Would love to hear the opinions from some experienced XL owners.

Mine were not included. If I didn't see the label about where to mount them I might assume I don't do anything but slide the slide in. I did do some crazy traveling to get home, slide seemed fine, but suffering slide damage could be the most expensive thing to repair.

I did not have them when I owned the 390XL, and the wife questioned me about them...however they were under the bed when I bought the 396XL. Being that my 3 kids sit on the couch while I'm driving I may use them on our next trip.
