The Test of Time

Have you got pictures of your unit over the years that you have owned it?

Show them to us to document the longitivity of your AirStream Motorhome.

Here is my 65 Anniversary 1996 CLIPPER in 2008, 2013 and again this October 2015.

I believe this to be the only CLIPPER on a Freightliner Chassis and the last one built before production ceased for this weight class. (29500lbs) (It was 2000 before Airstream introduced the XC Class A.)

Wow, tire covers that snap in place? Nice! Who sells those panels? Doubt they come in the red of my RV, but perhaps the silver? Seems pretty cheap to make if you have a set of tools and a sewing machine, but that is not my style.

I made up those panels from used material from a damaged tent garage. Not difficult to make up. The window panels are the most difficult as the front ones take some time to get aligned.

I tried to make them fit tight, so the wind does not flap them.

One needs a ladder to install the front windshield covers. I carry a couple collapsible style in my rear compartment.

The old girl still looks great, Dave, especially considering that she will turn twenty next year.

Thanks for looking.

The CLIPPER will celebrate birthday #20 in February 2016. It took approximatly a month and a bit, for these units to go from s/n assignment with chassis arrival, to running off the assembly line at Jackson Center for final inspection.

If only AIRSTREAM had the independence to produce these again?

I'll always have an Airstream trailer. As much as I love the Airstream trailer there are adventures where I'd rather have a motorhome. So now, I'm forced to buy another brand because I want a new motorhome - which also means with this S.O.B. Some other brand motorhome I won't have privileges in the Airstream only parks I also enjoy. Dave, I have found a Clipper on a Freightliner Chassis here in Ontario. It's a 1998, for sale and only has 27,000 Miles. Scares me as I have only had trailers. Looks like a great deal at $42,000. How much will I have to pay for maintenance each year.

WOW!????? Try to get some photos and more detailed information. I tend to think if it is a CLIPPER, and is registered as a 1998, that it was a model that was unsold from the Jan 1996 production. There are no records of the CLIPPER being produced after the 96 model year.

Can you get me the serial number of the chassis, and the Airstream s/n also? The Airstream number will end in 710XXX. It will be on the dash at the bottom of the windshield, drivers side.

I see this one advertised in your area. Is this what you see?

THIS IS NOT A CLIPPER! IT IS A CUTTER. It is only 35' and on a lighter chassis, front entrance door, and has a CAT engine. This is not the same unit as a CLIPPER! GVW is 26350 vs 29500 for the CLIPPER.

Told you I didn't know much about them. That is the one in this area. They have changed the add, used to say Freightliner chassis.
I think I'll stay with trailers.
