SKYDECK roof covering

I just purchased (not installed yet) some of the original roof deck floor covering 3M safety walk slip resistant medium resilient tape, self stick, Grey 370, 24X60 roll.
Got it from JobberPAL.com Part #70070549236 $516 for 60 ft roll.
Thanks to southerncoachrv.com for the information. (they installed it on their skydeck already)

Will post pics once i get it installed.

Mine is completely gone, but I got the RV 10 years old, so no idea when it came off. I am in no hurry to replace, although it did protect the fiberglass from the sun. Now that summer is coming again I need to wax the fiberglass to protect it from more micro-cracks.

It is disappointing that the new roll peels back up so quickly. Perhaps we need to look to the yacht industry for guidance. I have seen they actually use a form of paint to put the rough surface on their decks to keep people from slipping. Although as it stands the surface is really easy to clean. Might need to get a power washer to clean a rougher surface.

I prepped the roof for the coating. After digging into it it is not that bad.
Most parts are either screwed or rivet on.
Here some pictures:

Very nice. I see you are uploading low res photos, so I cannot see the detail but your cushions look better than mine. At least a large chunk of their lives were spent indoors. When I get mine redone I will probably only put them out when I am going to use them. Leave them in the basement the rest of the year. The foam will probably always look bad as it is not designed to be comfortable, it is designed to shed water out the holes in the bottom of the cushions. If it absorbed water it would be mold city in there. I don't actually have any new foam, so it may be weathered.

What's the next step? Are the sides coming off? The furniture? Loving the photos, thanks so much.

That is all for me. Rest will be done by MasterTechRV.
The front and the rear will have adaptor plates do you can remove it without destroying the roof seal.
The center I will leave and they will be costed over.

Found another loose antenna cable behind the roof entertainment center.
I guess they only used part of the cable.

Yeah, my antenna is missing too. I got OK reception of the Reno Air Races signal but I was feet from the tower. I have already purchased several antenna to replace that one, hoping to find one that just screws on that part, but I have yet to find a fit. It needs to pivot on the other side of the fiberglass so the mast stays up and down instead of sticking straight out sideways. I don't believe there is any paint damage of the outside of my fiberglass so perhaps neither of our RVs ever had the mast mounted. They attached the inside part of the antenna but never the mast.

I am actually missing an antenna above the passenger seat too. There is a hole in the fiberglass right there, and others have antennae there, but I do not. I removed the vent right there and stuck my iPhone thru and took pictures and didn't actually see any inside part of an aerial, so perhaps I get my FM antenna from the omni TV antenna next to the front A/C. I also noticed that I am missing the antenna above the driver's seat, I believe that is for CBs, and I don't have one. I have seen others with an antenna there too.

You know, putting your photos away in my Photos app I noticed your RV looks JUST like another Masseyfarm posted about:

Wonder if it's the same one?

Aha! OK, so there IS only 1 Skydeck with your paint job, pretty common, usually if I see the same paint, it's the same Skydeck, unless it's red like mine, there's at least 3, or blue Nascar, there's more than one, maybe 4 or more.

I know yours is the same as the one posted on the RVs for sale thread because of this thing your RV has in common with that one. The satellite tower that raises with the rail. Yours has the same damage to the stereo cabinet table.

Personally that seemed clever, I might have kept that feature. Although you also might put one under the fiberglass crown as that seems to work well too. No wasted space on the deck. That's down the road for me someday.

Wow! You got all the seats off! Do you know how they came off? I see only holes in the top that I guess had bolts thru them. Is that all? Just a bolt thru the bottom of the furniture and into the roof support? That would make it pretty easy to remove, but also pretty easy to leak.

And you got the rails off, wow! Not sure why the lifts are still in place, and that aluminum panel where the stereo was. I can see leaving the stair cover as you are going to seal it to the roof, like you are with the plumbing vent above the washer/dryer.

I cannot get over how nice it is that you are down to the basics. As soon as I am sure I will be keeping the Sky Deck I will follow in your footsteps. I have to get the mold under control first. Once you get the roof sprayed you will be protected from cap to cap. I am really excited to see the results. When you are done you may want to look into protecting your gutter. I found these foam gutter filters that allow your gutters to stay clean by keeping big objects out:

Name:	IMG_1267.jpg
Views:	156
Size:	321.0 KB
ID:	262848

They are triangles so they would take the roofline straight against the wall. If the big things don't just blow away when you drive you can take the filters out periodically and shake them over the edge.

Are they recovering the cushions? Or just putting a new bottom on them?

Great idea with the gutter stuff. If it is all sprayed the gutter will covered over so there is no more the small canal it will be big and wide and everything will flush out either in the front or in the back. At least this is the idea.
All the bracket are mostly rivet on and yes a big concern of leaks.
I have bracket manufactured which seal to the roof and the seat brackets will be screwed on top and are removable without breaking to seal.
Have also new seat and backrest made as most of the wood is rotten. The new seats have a honeycomb plastic backing s o sacking over the rear a/c and now rotting.
The water line coming out of the roof is and always was to short could not being sealed correctly now it's gone be fixed.
The deck will be better then new.

MasterTechRV is not worth to even work with the just done care. They have also time Managment issues av4 week repair took 3 months cost me several hundreds on cancelations and screwed up all our plans for summer.
Keep in mind I start this process in January to make an early reservation to be proactive and give them plenty of time to schedule well.
As I said they don't care.
The upholstery turned out ok, guess the use a sub with higher quality standard the MasterTechRV.
I guess it is not easy to get anything done good and I did not look for cheap the roof rebuild or recovering was $25k.
They also replaced a basement door. They said they can make it exactly like the original on. Should be no problem if you can measure.

So now I paid for the guys time and have a all this holes in my new door I paid $1,200 for.
So overall my recommendation stay away from MasterTechRV in Elkhart IN.

Ouch! Well it's good that you got your home back. I also was unable to use one of my motorhomes for about 7 months. They kept working on other things that came in as they were regular clients. It seems that they may have had difficulty figuring out your RV what with wanting to keep leaks from happening.

I didn't see any detail of the NEW roof, other than the peel and stick carpet. I assume it has some new material rollered on, after fully cleaning the fiberglass. I need to do that, quick, rains are coming.

What about the brackets that the furniture is going onto. It still looks like the seats are riveted to the roof, and the grill area is not even put back together.

skydeck roof repair

Peter-
Sorry you are not happy with the cosmetic results- guess it remains to
be seen if any leaking issues were resolved. Not surprised on
Mastertech- Saw them speaking at Quartzsite, and seems they have the
right products, facilities and ideas, but lack time management and
quality control and craftsmanship. Given the level of mechanical
expertise etc at most RV dealers and repair and restoration shops, I
am not surprised. Google Technomadia.com and look at the restoration
work they had done on their old bus by Mastertech. Not great
reviews... Same thing happened to me at Nomad Airstream in NY.
Details really were not up to where they should be for the cost. For
example the table they built for my deck was a great design and the
aluminium work was terrific, but the table top was made from plywood,
covered with an metal edge and laminate top, First time it got wet,
it expanded and wouldn't fit in the holder (under the seat). Bolts
were not even stainless and rusted. Eventually it came apart. I had
the top remade by a cabinet guy in Florida in a corian using the
existing aluminium structure, and now its perfect (although a little
heavier) Good idea and design, just not the best execution by Nomad.
I have other similar issues on some of the other work they did.
I am sure there are some true craftsman out there, but they don't seem
to work in the RV industry- maybe in the Prevost level repair and
restoration shops where money is no object...

Yes I guess you right.
So fare with all my RV since 2004 I did not have any pleasant experience service wise even Airstream factory in Jackson center was disappointing.
Beginning of the year I had the horrible experience with an Freightliner Service in Ft. Worth I hope it could only get better. Looks like the RV industry does not care to get it right should start side where everybody can put his positive experience down to get a network of good services established for everybody to use.
I may go back and do it myself at least I know who to blame if it is not done right.

As horrible slow as the work I am doing on the Skydeck is, you are right, cannot blame anyone but myself, and since I don't charge myself labor, it's mostly FREE!
