Running a Generator in the deep South

Does anyone have any experience with running their diesel generator full-time while boondocking in the south? We are thinking about a vacation along the gulf but wonder about the wisdom (overheating) of running the gen for a/c and whatnot for 3-5 days straight. Anyone have any opinions/experience with this?

I am from South Florida and we run the generator in hunting camp for days at a time. It's gas, so I don't know if this helps much, but FYI. Good Luck!

While tailgating in Baton Rouge we would need to add oil about every sixth day of running.

I ran a gas generator for six weeks straight after Katerina for my home to run the refrigerator, a small A/C, fans, etc. No problems of over heating, the only time we shut it off was to put gas in it every 12 hours.

It's a Mitsubishi (4,500, I think) that I purchased used. I still use it. It fits in the bed of a pickup truck with a top so I can lock it, but it does not have wheels.

My first thought was 'were do y'all have a boon docking spot?, they are actually kinda rare'

We have run gensets while staying at no hookup locations. We usually shut it off after sun down and use 12 volt clip on fans.

Compared to paying for fuel, it's cheaper to pay for a campsite.

Have to concur with HiHoAgRV -- I can't think of a single boon docking spot in coastal Florida. The state and national parks that have "dry camping" generally restrict generator use to 8am to 8pm.

Even if you found a camping spot that had no generator restrictions, you are certainly not going to win any popularity contests if you run your genset 24/7.

The machinery will certainly handle it, however.
