Outside fridge and/or freezer ideas?

Anyone toy'd with putting out an outdoor fridge and/or freezer? Any plus' or minus' to consider (beyond the obvious)?

It'll make it far easier for the bears to get to the food stores... and make sure it's fresh for em!

I used to carry a dorm sized fridge that we would plop on the ground outside the trailer when we were going to be staying for more than a day or two. Kept me from having to move too far to grab a cold one.

When I'm driving, I have a portable 12v refrigerator plugged into one of those round 12v power outlets on the dashboard. It's a lot safer than getting up from behind the wheel to reach my Interstate's built-in refrigerator while the vehicle is in motion!

Anyway, as soon as I reach my destination, I put the portable fridge outside, and plug it into the 12v power outlet on the curbside rear quarter panel so it will run off the house batteries and not the chassis battery. Putting it up on a stepstool keeps it out of any puddles that may form from a sudden downpour, and since I only put sealed cans or bottles of my favorite beverage in it, there's no food odor to attract small (or large!) furry critters.

A few guys where we winter camp in FL use dorm type refrigerators outside their trailers to keep their cold drinks handy. I know a couple of them have lasted more than 3 winter seasons setting out in the rain/sun.

These people make excellent refrigerators with the very efficient swing motor compressor. Most of them can be set to be either a refrigerator or a freezer.

I have used a similar brand no longer made, but with the same compressor, for almost 20 years. I even put it into the trunk of the car when I go on road trips without the trailer, or make a Costco run, which is over 100 miles for me.

They are not inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination but they work well.
