We decided to replace the entire step assembly, including the motor. Ours is a Kwikee 40 Series, two step. These are powder coated. Anyone know of a higher quality step and finish that we could order?

Pam,
Most of the steps that I work on are the Kwikee products. They make a nice step that is very serviceable. There are other, much higher-end products out there, but IMHO, you will be well-served by the Kwikees.
Hi, Ordered and just picked up the steps from the local dealer, Marty's USRV. We ended up with ordering all new including the 'brain'. Hopefully they'll go in this weekend.

We ordered the replacement steps from USRV in MA. They are the correct manufacturer and model for replacing the original. The price for the steps, motor and controller ran under $600. Labor by my husband. Note that the steps unbolted easily except for the last bolt which refused to come out. Finally, the last resort was to cut it out.
Of course it worked opposite to what it should because the new controller was actually different from the original. Door opens, step is in. Door is shut, step is out. Now that didn't work! Thank goodness that my husband works in electronics and was able to correct that problem.
Now we are good to go.
