Anyone want to share insurance recommedations for a RV that's used for 2 weeks out of the year and parked the rest of the time please?

I kept coverage for theft and fire/flood/natural disaster. It was rolled into my car policy and I had Geico. I haven't beaten Geico for insurance in Florida, although every state is different.
At the time, my RV was a motorhome, so I suspended collision and liability. I kept some insurance, otherwise the state suspends your license. Also kept the plates current.
Now with a trailer, they don't carry collision and liability so the tow vehicle carries those.
It's not practical to keep a RV that's only used two weeks a year. It depreciates faster than you use it.
If you just love it, I understand.
It took me 5 years to emotionally sell the MH, and I probably lost $30K.

If you keep the plates active with the DMV, as well as the insurance coverage, it should not matter if the vehicle is parked or on the road IMO. Personally I would not cancel the collision. Suppose someone drives into it while it is parked, like a delivery vehicle or careless visitor?
One important question -- where is it parked, in your drive, a storage area, or elsewhere, perhaps on a public street? The answer would affect the advice.
Please let us know what your insurance agent recommends.
Peter
PS -- Here in NY, there might be the option of turning the plates into the DMV, cancelling the insurance, and listing the RV as personal property under your homeowner's insurance, I think, but the cost savings would have to be substantial to justify all the legwork and paper shuffling IMO. You would have to check with your insurance agent to see if this would work in SC. Good luck!

I have State Farm. When I would take my Miata off the road in the winter, I just called and the gave me a very cheap storage rate. A phone call would put it back on the road.

Ours sits in storage for up to a couple of years between trips so since Progressive don't offer a storage option, I just cancel it and let it sit uninsured. Might be different if it was worth 100k but it isn't so ...

For my motorcycles, as stated earlier, I just call and tell them they're off the road and they change my coverage, call them again the day before they go back on. Keeps the cost way down. Pretty much just theft and nature damage.

Some people choose not to have insurance on a seldom used or mostly parked RV.
If the value is low enough, it will be covered under the policy of the vehicle towing it.

My only concern about dropping insurance coverage on my stored Airstream is if it is damaged by another vehicle or natural disaster.

The RV here is a Land Yacht I believe, per the OP, and not a trailer.

We had about 20 Airstream units in storage mode (winterized) at a RV park in the mountains and we had a break-in incident last week where three much older trailers (late 80s and early 90s) had windows jimmed and the screen structured destroyed to gain access. At least two storage sheds were broken into.
The main entrance door of the trailers were alarmed in some instances. Coming in the window did not of course trigger the alarms.
So many are now planning to install motion detector alarms. Some folks had no insurance so the repairs will sadly be on their nickel.
So storage mode is not a time to have no insurance unless in a private storage facility where there is no other traffic....

Hi
There are all sorts of freak things that can happen to anything anywhere. If the MH is on the road 2 weeks out of the year, but lived in the rest, that adds substantially to the list. Even in enclosed storage, there's always the risk of some guy named Bob not being very careful as he pulls in (and then running off ...)

Basic rule for insurance is you insure stuff you can't afford to replace yourself - and of course anything that is legally required by law. My airstream is 17 years old so isn't worth insuring against risks during storage - particularly since any claims during storage are fairly likely to be below the deductable limit anyway. Numbers game as always

When my Miata was off the road, it was still covered for fire and theft etc. Probably my home owner's insurance would have kicked in as it was stored in my garage.

Suggest checking the exact coverage(s) with one's agent, before cancelling/modifying any policy. The OP has a large Land Yacht RV which probably does not fit in a garage IMO.
