Generator start

On my unit there are three places where I can start the generator, the captains chair, the control panels in the hall, and the side of the bed. They all have a light so I know it's running if it's too noisy to hear otherwise. But ONLY the dash console switch can turn OFF the generator. The other sets of switches will turn the generator on, and they do toggle both up and down, but they do NOT turn the generator off.

Can anyone confirm this behavior?

I am hoping this all leads to a wiring issue that explains my step and my tank sensor issues as well. A bad ground would be GREAT, assuming it's easy to fix.

Mine will turn off on every of the 3 switches.

Thanks as always, I have some troubleshooting to do. Wish there was a wiring diagram published for these RVs. I am building a collection of PDF manuals for all the devices that are wired in so I can cobble together my own.

While I don't have any direct information on your rig, the switches should both start and stop the generator from any location. I suspect you have a wiring issue to be located.

Replace the switch. I had one that did the same, put new switch in works great now.

For my previous two RVs (both Sprinter based RVs) I started Yahoo Groups as no one had a support site for them. Fortunately this group has more members than both my Sprinter groups. I cannot figure out how to upload to this group however. I guess I could create a Yahoo group for the Skydeck and upload the PDFs there...

There is free storage of pdf's on Google Drive. I use it to store my newsletters for the Northern Illinois WBCCI unit. Sign up for Gmail and it is easy to set up.

TL;DR The wiring was reversed.

Traced the wires from the generator. Looks like it's black is ground, red drives the lights and hobbes meter, yellow is start, and brown is stop. But look how it was all wired:









They are ALL different. So I followed the model of how the dash was that worked and got the amidship switch working, unfortunately the switch in the bedroom was actually broken. Ordered a new one, $24 shipped. Need a good RV shop near me. One more issue off my plate!

Oh, while I had the dash apart I took the actual switch apart and found that the bulb that is supposed to shine thru the red indicator part of the switch had come out. I managed with a TINY flat blade to push it back in, so actually 2 things off my plate. YAY!
