Having Sprint service for my personal smartphone and AT&T for my "mifi" and Verizon for my work smartphone, I would not recommend Sprint for reliable data service in camping settings. It's generally fine in/near civilization, but out in the woods I've found the other 2 to be more reliable.

For over thirteen years I have driven on the interstates across the USA from Indiana to Phoenix and back. The best coverage has always been with Verizon.

I tried the AT&T service with a 3GS iPhone shortly after they came out. I tried all manner of things working with AT&T to make operational service inside my homes on the far east edge of Phoenix, my home in Santa Fe and my condo in Bloomington, Indiana. After nearly nine months of failure, they relented and cancelled the contract without penalty.

When I drove cross country on the interstates, I would have service with the existing Verizon phone (usually a Blackberry at that time) but none with AT&T.

Maybe the fact that I have had the same cell phone number with Verizon since 1988 has some impact on my relationship with them.

Another one to look at is Millenicom which uses the verizon network. Might be a bit cheaper if you use more than 5 GB a month, no contract.
The general consensus on various RV forums is that Verizon offers the best coverage in more remote areas. ( Sprint and ATT won't even work where I live)

Evidently just a question of budget and availability. We found the Verizon Jetpack worked at one campground at 4G speed for about $100/mo.

I sure hope that some kind of arrangement can be made. It seems to be getting tougher and tougher to provide wifi at campgrounds while staying under the radar of the illegal-download police.
