Battery emergency start switch

99 Airstream Cutter. The emergency start switch next to the door lock switch on the side panel decided to let the smoke out so I need a new one - preferably one that fits in the existing escutcheon plate.

Anyone have a source for these switches please.

I was able to get these switches direct from JC a few years ago. I have not had to look for them since. JC should be able to tell you where to look if they no longer carry them. The 'KENWORTH' switch I tried was just a bit small for the hole but I cut up a frame from a plastic coffee lid to work temporarily until I got the proper switch.

I believe these are the right ones.

JC typically means Jackson Center.

JC is Jackson Center, Airstream plant in Ohio.
Are you going to make that trip long enough to travel there for the tour Tony?

I have sent you a PM Tony with a contact at JC to answer your inquiries.

http://www.euramtec.com/ also has an ebay outlet here. http://stores.ebay.com/Euramtec-Part...RV-Coach-Truck

I don't see our switches on there but you may contact them from therel

JC Whitney used to be a good source for accessories, but they will no longer ship out of the USA. Business must be good when you can refuse customer orders.

Thanks all. The JC reference and contact will be useful for furure reference.

I also contacted the manufacturers suggested by Dave and they are happy to send out just one switch and charge it to my credit card.

Bit of a closer inspection on the old switch today pointed to a different failure mode than I thought.

The switch had been sticking and I hadn't realised it because I've never had reason to use it - but the contactor was closed all the time so that wasn't desirable.

Sprayed some silicone spray around the rocker and operated it a few times and it seemed to be freeing up a bit but not enough. Operated the switch many times at a rapid rate and the darn thing caught fire. Assumed that poor switch contacts and rapid operation on the inductive load had just caused overheating and burning of the plastic. Took a long time for the smoke to stop which was unusual.

But when I pulled the switch apart, found all the charring was well away from the contacts and the only thing I can think of is that a pool of propellant collected in that side of the switch and caught alight. The switch action is still in good condition but the rocker still sticks. Damage was caused by me levering the switch out of the panel with a big screwdriver to get aat what was burning. Grrrrrr!!!
