Another breakdown

So the first trip, bringing the RV home I broke down in Wyoming, had to tow the RV ($900), travl home while repairs waited ($400), and pay for repairs ($650).

Now on my second trip, I went to Reno for the air races. Had a lovely time, people, including my new mechanic, kept telling me how cool the RV was. Driving south on 395 out of Reno in 100 degree weather with the AC cranked. Kept thinking to myself how much happier I was to be driving in this heat than sitting, (insert appropriate Blues Brothers quote) when I heard a loud pop and the RV started to slow. Could not get over 10 mph floored uphill.

Pulled over and looked up freightliner, with my blinkers going I struggled (fortunately it was light Sunday traffic) to the dealer. When the engine cooled I popped the top and looked. Probably still cannot send a pic from iPhone. Hose for the turbo is only connected on one end. Looks easy to fix, but I am already at the right place to fix it.

Not looking forward to tomorrow, I have only been to freightliner once and they reamed me. Hopefully that was just a California thing.

-Randy

PS Air Races were aces!!

Up and running

I was actually only at the dealer for the day. Met a lot of nice Freightliner drivers who were in similar boats (well, trucks). I blew the Air Cooler hose, it takes (I am told) the compressed and thus HOT air coming off the turbo and runs it in front of the radiator before into the engine. Cooler air gives more power.

I woke at 7 am and still managed to be their first customer. I was also their last, but most of the others had retired to the local Super8. So out in one is a good thing. I was too tired to drive, so the following AM I headed for home.

Drove like a champ. They had not only replaced all the hoses that came loose they went thru and replaced all my rusted brackets, including the exhaust, it is SO much quieter now. Only a day and a half delay and ~$500. Still had left overs in the fridge, so I packed well.

Sounds like the Charge Air Cooler hoses to me...good result for you for a very reasonable price.

Yes that is what the name of the hose was.
