In an earlier post I stated that I was looking for a 3 slide Airstream motorhome. To all sellers and dealers of motorhomes, I am no longer looking to purchase a motorhome.
In April we purchased a 2006 A39, 3 slide, 400HP, all electric Airstream motorhome. It had about 8,000 mile on it. We were concerned about the lack of miles, dry rot, rusted parts, problems that come with lack of use. So after an inspection at the dealership, installation of six new Michelin tires, all new batteries, we made the purchase. Probably paid too much, but theses units are few and far between. I found this one at Tennessee RV in Knoxville. Recently replaced all four seals in front wheel bearings after 5000 miles of use. This was done after one was found to be leaking. Looking forward to the next few years of traveling the roads of the USA.
Also, we were very pleased with Tennessee RV in Knoxville. They did what they said they would do, their billing was clear and fair, and their mechanics(we dealt mostly with Mike) were very competent. I would recommend them when in or around Knoxville.

How about some current pics of that Air Class A. You have one of the last ones built. Most people don't even know Airstream made big Class A.

Here are some recent photos of the 2006 A39 3 slide on a trip to Maine and one at Assateague State Park in Maryland.

This is not an Airstream, but is worthy of a look. A very nice older Country Coach Prevost. This is before electronics, and just a beauty that needs someone to care for it.

Presently on Ebay.
1989 Prevost Country Coach XL W/Matching Stacker Trailer EXCELLENT!

If AIRSTREAM was interested, (which they are not!) it would be nice to get a matching trailer for my CLIPPER?????????? It would be a good place to haul the CATS!

This might be a wake up call to Airstream?

RETRO IS IN. Let's get the big Class A back on the road.

Went to the RV show at Arbutus Meadows today to avoid doing anything constructive and kill some time. Good crowd, and all inside this year. The large display building was packed, and some displays out front, as usual. No car show combined with it this year.

Motorhomes are in again, with the price of fuel down a bit, and everyone has forgotten the bad times of 7 or 8 years ago already. 6 or more large motor homes, (37' and less) on display.

One of the attractions this year was the Winnie Tribute, a retro version from the 80's. Cute as it was to many, I thought to myself if your going to reproduce a retro, for God sakes pick one that has some style to begin with! My opinion only. Other were thrilled with it.

The nicest unit on site, and this is just in comparison to what was displayed today, was a used 2007 Triple E Commander, 37', on Workhorse, with low, low kilometers. I thought this was a new unit, until the salesman pointed out it was used, and 8 years old. Very nice, for this level of motorhome. Asking, just under the 100K.

Another trend I am not sure about yet, is the number of young ladies with the new grey hair, and grey streaked hair. I saw at least 8 of these gorgeous displays today at the show, and at my MD's stop later for lunch. An old guy like me is easily confused, and this is not HELPING!!!!!

So I am back home today, thinking I will pass on the new motorhomes, but undecided about all the new hair styles!

Just purchased an Airstream Skydeck from 2005. Needs some work, sad to say, but most 10 year old patio furniture looks pretty bad after sitting in the sun. I am now in the "did I make a mistake" phase of the purchase. I am shopping for comparable Airstreams and was hoping this thread would have regular updates. I am getting updates from rvt.com and google. Do people wanna see those posted here? Should I leave well enough alone? Just let others keep this thread going or not.

Anyway, it gives me a chance to say that A39 is SOMETHING. Please post more pics of the details. Tempted to gut the Skydeck and do a complete remodel based on it's layout. Wonder if Airstream would sell me all the parts necessary to do it, including the 2 additional slides!

Probably going to be lurking for a time while I settle into the new coach.

I got the beater, but it's what I can afford:

Hopefully if I keep it in nice enough shape I can enjoy it for a few years and then resell it for not a loss. I am hoping it takes my heart and makes me wanna keep it forever, but it's a bit much if you are not full timing it.

I was thinking about renting it out, so I can keep it and have it pay for itself, so I can drive the little RV I already have. That one is quite respectable on MPG and has most of the features of a bigger RV like the Skydeck.

What are your plans for yours? I wonder if there is a club for crazies like us, there are so few of these out there I wonder if we could find each of the Skydecks ever made, watch their comings and goings. I only knew of 4 on the market, if I include the 1 in Europe that was for sale. If we both just bought we took half of the worlds supply of Skydecks away.

I almost bought a sky deck but went with an XC instead. However my AS dealer is on notice to go ahead and buy one for me if he comes across one in decent condition. The one I passed on was mint and boy do I regret it. The sky deck is legendary.

Hello Skydeck owners!
I aspire to own one of these someday! Our favorite event is the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in October and a Skydeck would be ideal for that! Alas, we own a lowly Classic 1986 Airstream 345 motorhome that has been there 5 times so we live with that.
Oh, and we have 2 other Airstream motorhomes and 4 trailers including a 35 foot 1960 Airstream made for the Southern Pacific Railroad. One of 3 survivors. It looks good behind the Airstream Bvan.
israndy - what was so "trashed" about the beautiful red Skydeck you bought? It looks great!
We have had the 345 for 12 years and with any motorhome, you make a list of priorities! If you have a big enough $$$ in the checkbook, I am sure Airstream will do whatever you want to yours!
I have heard that the Skydeck are subject to roof leaks after long use with lots of people on the roof. It makes sense and something to keep on top of.
Well, good luck with yours!

Moving to it's own thread

OK, we are posting too much that is Skydeck and not enough that is Pushers Available. Feeling guilty.

Please join me on a new thread to continue this discussion of the 2005 Skydecks that two of us just purchased:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f313...ck-136687.html

I know there was that spate of discussion on the A39 purchase and it faded when people stopped posting. That unit was ready to go, but I am going to have LOTS of questions, so I don't wanna monopolize this thread for that.
