2001 Airstream 395 XL, double slide

Available now in Ontario, CANADA, at a automotive dealer.

Add says it is Custom Built with a CUMMINS??????????????

This model should have a CAT engine, so I would question this?

As always, an on site inspection is important before making any deals.

Looks good in the pictures.

Welcome to the AF and the Airstream Class A group 35cutter.

Start a new thread here on the Class A section and let us know all about your unit and post lots of pictures. We like pictures.

If you name your/each thread '35cutter' --(engine/travel, or other segment), it will be a good place to document your maintenance efforts, travel, etc. and it will always be easy to find on the internet.

Did you get that one in Nevada that I had in Post #50 that was on eBay???? It looked very good for the age.

Happy to have another Class A owner active on this site.

Dave

Not many 39' units available now as they are all on the road.

Still some 36' units available.

There are also 4 or 5 Class A 36' units for sale on pg 57 in the Blue Beret magazine/site.

3 slides

I am trying to figure out if there were 3 slides on the Airstream motorhome. What year? I have read on the internet it was 2006 and was called the A Series. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thanks.

3 slides

I would add that my question is regarding the 39' motorhome. Were the 1 and 2 slides the XL396 series? Did they make a unit with 3 slides? If they did they must have made a very limited number.

Airstream made the 390 (single slide) and the 395/396 (double slide).

There is no documentation of Airstream ever building a three slide unit.

NOTE:
Last year of production of the big Class A units was for the 75 Yr. Anniversary in 2006.

I would go for it if that is what you are looking for. I'm sure you won't find another Airstream like it. There ARE other makes out there that can be had with most if not all of these goodies in this price range, but if Airstream is what you are after.............this might be it!

That unit was sold some time ago. The reason for the post was for someone in the know to answer my question. Did Airstream make a 3 slide motorhome? The two sites in my previous post were in reference to that question.

You asked about the 39' models and AFAIK there was no 3 slide model in 39'.

Airstream, has over the years, experimented with many changes and its possible that something was done on a 'oneoff' trial.

The A37 3 slide unit was featured in post 7 on this thread.

Thanks for the reply.Wife and I are planning extensive travel in the future and are considering a motorhome. We enjoy the Airstream community and rallies and would like to stay a member in the future. That is the reason for my interest in Airstream motorhomes with multiple slides. I am finding the inventory is slim for later models with multiple slides. We are in no hurry, so I do have time on my side. Maybe that person who bought that one unique unit is reading this. If so, I'm looking and Interested. Thanks again.

Project

This might be a project for someone who has a damaged unit that can be used for parts???? or possibly someone who is into interior design that wants their own special layout. ie: wheelchair access, etc.

This Cutter's first life was in the Xray field, but the structure looks to be solid and the unit has low miles recorded.

The unique feature of this unit is that it is a newer model (2001) and has the mid entry door, so the view out the front is fantastic for touring the continent. (Check out that map cabinet?)

It also has a large door mid ships that might be used as a small fold out patio for having that morning coffee on? or any of your other ideas that would make this unit yours.

The add says this is a 29500# rated chassis similar to the 96 Clipper but whether it is on the raised rail chassis would have to be determined. VIN: 4UZ6XJCA1YCH16950
Dimensions & Weight
Exterior Width: 8' 5"
Exterior Length: 35' 4"
Exterior Height: 11' 8"
GVWR: 25,950 lbs.

Inspection required on site @ Chesterfield, Virginia to confirm condition!
Ebay time left 5 days. #251319302136

Correction

Guess I did not have my coffee this morning and misread the specs on the above unit.

The GVWR is 25950# not 29500# as I thought I was looking at?

This will be a straight rail chassis with these lower specs.

Concerning # 65, this unit has alot of water damage in the lower storage compartments and the ceciling above the slide out has water damage. Dealer quoted a min. of $5000.00 to repair the storage compartment and probably more. Looked at this unit 2 different time last week.

Water can do a lot of damage if not sealed off and dried up ASAP.

That is why it is so important to take your time when inspecting any used product. The salesman is not going to point out the flaws!

I think that unit in post 65 is on a straight rail chassis so I am not sure how extensive that basement repair would be?

Its too bad Airstream did not use aluminium below the floor level also. Then you would just have to deal with the cosmetic damage that results from water intrusion.

If the leak starts at the roof, I would be worried about delam and floor damage on that side???

If you have the ability to do some of the repair yourself, a rock bottom offer may give you a lifetime hobby?
