1995 Land Yacht Cutter LE MH - Door Window Removal

We have a 1995 Land Yacht Cutter LE 34' Motorhome. It has a stained glass insert in the entry door between the two glass panes which we want to replace with a new insert. I removed all the screws on the inner frame and poped it off. I still cannot remove the inner glass to get to the stained glass insert. It seems to have another frame around the glass that needs to come out before the glass can be removed. I cannot figure out how to remove it. Has anyone successfully accomplished this?

I am not familiar with your glass but it sounds like you are dealing with a sealed insulated glass unit and if you break that seal you will end up with moisture and water in that glass unit on down the line. You can't just use silicone to put it back together because it will fail and you will have to remove it again. Insulated glass in sealed with a hot medium that sets when it cools. If it has a rubber like feeling compound that is black to dark gray then its a sealed unit.

I don't think it is sealed, because the Stained Glass Insert is not Factory (that I know of???) The inside pain of glass is loose, There is just a frame around it that wont let it come out???

I would use a magnifying glass to look real close at the joint of frame and see if you can see any material between the add on frame and the door. If they used silicone to put together it would feel like it is welded on. If you see glue you can use dental floss to break most seals that are just applied and not heated with pressure placement.

I read another post on another site and the in that case the owner of a different motorhome was having a similar issue. He removed the rubber seal on the outside of the window and was able to remove the glass there, so today I pulled back the outside seal, and bingo.....the glass is siliconed in to the frame there with small beed of silicone. It appears it was removed and the stained glass inserted and then siliconed back in. Hopefully the silicone won't prove too tough to remove. Any suggestions??? You mentioned dental floss, but how do you get it started behind the glass?

You don't, unless edges are above surface it is mounded to.
Is there enough room to run a razor blade down the edge, with a second swept holding at an angle to cut the silicone? I have done this with aquariums that need the glass replaced. after the cut putting a knife blade with slow even pressure could break the bead before the glass, but you wanted to get rid of the stained glass anyway, so only the danger of flying glass.

I just had every one of my double pane windows removed, cleaned, re-sealed and replaced. I watched them remove and replace. They used a single edge razor blade to cut the silicone then just pulled out the unit. When replaced they ran a small bead of silicone back around window. Not a difficult job.
