Thanks for this. The guy we had look at ours has done a few Airstreams and othe rv's. I used to work for him back in high school laying carpet back in the early 70's. Precise, to the point. Going to replace some sub-floor (toilet area) as per other posts... Would like to do this myself, but no time. Least this way we can be on the road lots more quickly.

The piece that has rot I was going to replace. It is only aprox. 3' by 2', hopefully it isn't glued down.

I delivered the new flooring for our trailer to our dealer yesterday - like others, I prefer to have a professional deal with this.

We went with a barnboard feel. Vinyl has come a long, long way. I swear I can't tell it from wood from three inches away. You have to touch it.

The wood floor is glued down. The floors are constructed just like the walls with 1.5" of blue foam insulation is glued to the floor pan and sub floor above. I used a circular saw to cut most of the outline. There are metal beams under the wood floor as well. You'll need to set the depth of the circular saw blade to the thickness of the wood in order to avoid cutting through the beams. I then used a small circular saw blade (about 1.25" in diameter) on a Dremel tool to make the final cuts perpendicular to the wall. If the wood is rotted, then the glue will have let loose. The areas that weren't soaked, still had a strong glue bond. I just used a large wide putty knife and hammer to separate the wood from the foam.

Got our estimate today, $865.00 installed. Likely that there will be some subfloor work around the toilet, as we expected. Had budgeted 2-2500, so looks like we will come in way under our budget.

I installed FLOR carpet tiles...which I really like, but MAN some of these floors are just this side of gorgeous. I hated the stock floor as it looks cheesy and I found it almost impossible to keep clean. The FLOR is simple to install and you can pull up a tile and hose it off if you spill a whole plate of spaghetti on it (heh, heh), but now a gorgeous wood floor is VERY tempting....

Hats off to you. You did a great job. Good details on the photos.

Since we spend a lot of time in Florida, I was sure glad to get rid of our sand grabbing carpet.

In about 7/8 years we will be in the market for an other motor home and for sure solid surface floors are going to be one key item we will be looking for. Carpet is so nasty for camping, it collects everything. Now all I need is a broom.

I love the Allure maple vinyl plank flooring, I put it down in my '68, it looks very "real"- better than the real stuff to me, yeah, the gaps expand and contract a little(but so does real wood) but it's very durable, waterproof, easy to install, and easier replacement later if needed.
I installed 1/2 inch real maple planks in my '93, looks great, but they had to be glued down to the OSB(never coming up if needed?), so I worry about water damage, wear, and replacement.
I wanted to go with the Allure then, but it was just coming out at Home Depot and maple was special order and expensive.

I think with the 1/2 gal. glue and 3 boxes of vinyl I had 120 in everything.

Glue??? I thought the Allure flooring product didn't require glue and was a floating floor design. Did I miss something?
