Windsheild wiper problem

After setting a few days I turn on the ignition and the wipers com on, and they stay on for maybe 5 minutes before they start working right. Anyone have this problem?

I haven't experienced your exact problem , but I have had erratic wiper movement. My wipers stopped completely and I changed the modulator box, after that all I could get to work was one speed, low, no intermittent, no high. I figured I must have messed up the wiring somehow. I'm not very good at electrical problem solving and haven't had a chance to take it in to have it looked at, that was months ago. then just last week when I tried them everything worked, which leads me to believe that the wiper arm assembly may possibly have a short in it somewhere.

Sitting for year got the same thing. Found loose shaft pipe where wiper goes thru the front. Solved by wd40 and silicone after tighten the fitting, ran until smooth and fast with the wipers off the windshield. I think it needs a grease fitting for the shaft as oil in the weather won't prevent it from freezing up again.

Yep, seems like a pretty common problem. My 92 LY does a similar thing. Turn the ignition on and the wipers start up automatically. Sometimes it's just one wipe and other times it runs until I turn the ignition off and then back on. I haven't dug into it yet so I can't be of much help. A defective modulator may be the answer. If you get yours fixed then report back as to how you did it. I just have too many other projects going on right now to dig into mine.
