Remodeling the Land Yacht Livingroom?
Has anyone remodeled their Land Yacht living room?
Ours has one swivel chair just inside the door with a 3 person couch/bed across from it with a dinette next to it across from the kitchen on the door side.
While we have seated four at the dinette, we don't use it often. Same with the couch/bed. I'm looking for ideas for a possible redo of our 94 Land Yacht 35'
DP. I've never really liked the height or comfort of the swivel chair and thought two better ones might be better. Any suggestions will be read and considered.

I replaced my oem jackknife couch with a wood frame futon with drawers underneath. I felt the original was uncomfortable for sitting due to it's low back and even worse for sleeping. I first tried a memory foam mattress but it was stiff as a board when cold so I switched to a 10 layer futon mattress.

Paul,
One idea may be to change the booth dinette to the table/chairs set up that was a option on the Landyachts. Not only does the table fold down but the chairs do too. Since I am now fulltiming, I have a computer desk and 2 two drawer file cabinets on either side of the desk as a work station. If needed, the desk can be cleared and has room for 2 to eat a meal at the desk. Desk came from Walmart. Will be glad to send some photos if needed.
I do not like the single swivel chair by the door and been thinking about upgrades.

My wife and I are starting to reconfigure the dining area in our '01 LY. The aft bench is removed; we plan to replace with a 3-drawer 18" kitchen cabinet. Unless I can figure out how to make the pony wall in front of the forward bench self supporting, we will reduce the footprint of this bench. The new table top will replace most of the present one and will also cover the cabinet. The bench will continue to face aft, and the dining chair we add will face the window when in use. One table leg will support the forward corner. Ideas are most welcome!

Looking for advice on removing the dinette. Is the entry handle pony wall necessary? I want storage under the window, with countertop over it to eat at while facing out the window. Does that make sense? 2000 land yacht 30

Interior remodel
Under the rear bench of our dinette is the furnace, under the front one is the fresh water pump as well as the filler hose for the water tank. We're stuck with the dinette, but will consider replacing the jackknife couch and the swival chair. (Both are to low) Only problem is the lose of storage under the couch.
Any more ideas?

Here's what we did
CandyK,
We removed the benches in our 2001 LY30, replaced them with chairs, and narrowed the table by 4 inches. For the two of us, this is a good configuration.
In doing so, we debated the need for the pony wall at the entrance. We also discovered that there are electrical considerations: 110 volt outlet, cable harness and raceway, two switch panels, and a footwell light all need new homes. As you mentioned, there's a handrail to consider, plus access to the door deadbolt.
We could have addressed all of this in the storage you describe (think kitchen cabinet uppers) but decided we didn't need all that storage (could have erred).
We repurposed parts from the back of the frontmost bench and made a narrow pony wall. It ends up being pretty stout and could be used as an assist for leaving, but not so much for entering. I found a grab rail my wife had seen and it works better than the original. It's mounted on the forward side of the door frame. You could possibly mount one on the dinette side of the door.
The pony wall still contains all of its electrical stuff, and we relocated the 110 outlet from the aft bench to this wall. much more usable.
We also installed a small bookshelf to recover a little of the storage we lost.
We replaced and lengthened the electrical raceway with a plastic one. If you line the wall with cabinets you won't need this but you'll need to allow for the wires.
Once the benches were gone, there were a lot of nail and screw holes in the curb wall and the wall behind the aft bench. We covered this with beadboard.
I apologize for the picture orientations - Newbie issues
PM me if you'd like more details

Land Yacht Remodel
Ron C52,
Looks great. Our dinette is on the drivers side, so it's a different problem.
Question to those who use free standing chairs. Do you tie them down?
I worry about flying missiles with sudden stops, turns or accidents.
Your thoughts?

We had a freestanding table and chairs in two previous units a diesel pusher and a fifth wheel, and in both we secured the chairs. A Velcro strap or bungee cord worked fine. The chairs may not go far, but they can tip over, or rub against something.

We plan to go the velcro strap route. We actually just finished the mod within the last two weeks. We're taking a short trip next week and will have velcro in place. Thanks for confirming that this works.

Ronc52 ,
Thx. Now that we have it all removed to get the carpet out, I see what you mean about the electric. Very best solution!
