Recoating rubber roof?

I haven't posted since last summer, but took our 95 Land Yacht out this past weekend.

I'm prioritizing the repairs and want to get to the roof. We have bad chalking and need to reseal the roof. I'm looking for recommendations as to which coating to use. Is more expensive better? I'm not good with heights and don't want to get up there more than once this season! 😁

If it's a Dicor product I usually stick with Dicor products. My current rubber roof isn't that old so I use Dicor cleaner followed by Dicor rubber roof protectant. I'm pretty sure Dicor makes a good two process cleaner sealer that I'd use if my roof needed more help.

I don't know what was used last as we acquired it last year and it looks like it's been due for a couple of years. Can I put Dicor over anything? Whenever it rains, what's currently on there leaves chalk runs all over.

Roof coatings

We use white "Elastomeric" rubberized paint from Home Depot. We use it on our Airstream Land Yacht 35 Ft. Diesel pusher and on ow 20 foot enclosed car trailer. Both have pebblzed aluminum roofs, I do the seams and around openings first, then roll the rest. Never had a leak!

No, never any on the Airstream that's kept inside and the trailer that was kept outside. I bought a 5 gallon bucket about 10 years ago an may still have some.

Your Airstream has a fiberglas roof, the elastomeric coatings will work on them. Just make sure the roof is thoroughly clean before using.

land Yacht Roof

Gloran,
When I replaced one of the roof air units on our 94 Land Yacht diesel pusher,
I found the pebbled roof to be aluminum skin. I was glad to find that because that meant the Elasotmeric was only sealing the seams and openings as well as reflecting heat from the sun.

Hi; I see you have some knowledge about the Land Yacht roof , RV service and dealers here ( Canada ) cannot help with advice on repainting a fibreglass roof.
My unit is 30ft 2005 , a white substance sheds off in rain which I assume is oxidized paint , is there a common hardware product will fix this ?
Not sure how this website works so here is my e-mail , l.kroeker@sasktel.net

Popcornkid,
I tried you email and it was returned by the Mailer Deamon
Airstream motor homes have either fiberglass or aluminum roof centers with a fiberglass cap surrounding the flat area. Leaks are usually where there has been an opening made in the flat area, like A/C, vents, plumbing stack, antennas, spot light etc or where the fiberglass cap and the flat roof join...
The "Elastomeriic" coating is a rubberized white paint that dries to form a waterproof barrier. I use it first around all the openings and where the sides meet the flat center section. Then I roll the entire roof to seal any possible unseen openings. It's a great heat reflector too. Like Gloran says wash it all real well before you start and make sure it's all dry.
Available at Home Depot or other Hardware stores. I've been using it for over 20 years.
Paul

Red face 2005 LY MH roof

Thanks Paul , not sure whats happening with the e-mail it looks OK to me , I'll go to the city tomorrow and look at Home Depot Hardware for that paint you mentioned. I want to get this done before more material starts coming off and holes appear.

If all your concerned about is the chalking that will stop with waxing. Ifcyou want to reseal clean off old caulking reseal cap seams & cutouts w/dicore tape caulk the drip rails & edges with lap sealent (dicore). The fibreglass won't leak if it's punctured.
