Rear Airbags on Land Yacht 26 - Nice Upgrade

I mentioned to our mechanic that we had some sway during strong winds and asked him to install sway bars in the rear. He suggested and then installed airbags instead. He then ran the valves to rear of the rig for easy filling, etc. It's made a nice difference in the overall ride. I'm wondering why Airstream didn't do this in the first place?

FYI Jim your link only opens a blanked-out license plate, from what I can make out. I don't see any left or right arrows to scroll to more photos.

Airbags? I have a 26 also, do not have much trouble with sway but if it help the ride that would be nice. Do you have a link to the manufacture ?

There's little valves on left and right. I set them at about 60lbs. I'll find out who makes them. For some reason when I share photos via link with Google photos the link does not pull in the picture.

Airstream did put airbags on the rear. I have 4, two rear, two front. Only problem with this is not having a manual dump switch to help when leveling. Discovered that use of the hydrolic levelers makes them dump automatically but will refill if key is left in on position.

Upgrade

The Firestone Kit in the thread looks like you do set it and forget it? Does it require any pumps etc... to be installed?

Mine has 2 valves our mechanic installed on the back of the rig (one on each side of the license plate) so I can adjust the rear based on weight load.

Front Sway Bar

Did your mechanic recommend anything for the front as in a sway bar?

Their is a company in NC that makes replacement air bags and springs to retrofit. Most of their retrofit applications were developed for older Lincolns with deflated bags and Land Rovers. Most recently they have created an aftermarket application for pickups specifically towing 5th wheels.

Don't have their info handy but can respond directly to those in need of their contact info.

We just got back from a trip to Calif and Bend Oregon. Strong winds and she drove great with new air bags in back. I checked under the front and we have a Bilstein steering stabilizer and a big sway bar installed. Not sure if this was stock or installed by original owner. We keep air bags in front at 80 and rear at 60.

I did some checking, I think the PO installed the super steer springs which eliminated the need for the front airbags. I do have a front facing single shock with a spring on it. I assume that is some type of stabilizer. I use the Rig for tailgating at LSU and it is pretty stable at 70 mph cruise. But do want to add the rear bags, I fee that may be a nice upgrade.

HWH just came out with an air adjusted ride that compensates to a level ride while traveling. It would adjust the coach say your traveling down a road with a crown of 5% it would adjust the coach so that it would be more level. I Know it's just money but someone has to think this stuff up!

I just took delivery of some suspension additions. The PO added Super Steer bell cranks and a panhard rod in back. I saw good review of the SumoSpings that replace the bump stops and replacing the non-working front airbags.
