Over Filling Fresh Water
OK, so I am learning everyday about the LY. This weeks lesson is shes not a boat. Needed to fill my fresh water so I put the hose in the fill and went inside to do a little clean up with the wife. A few minutes later she yelled from the rear bedroom that the hose outside was spewing everywhere. I figured no big deal and went out and shut it off. Roll the tape forward a day or two and the MH has the odor of must. Yep, you guessed it, the pressure overflowed under the bed and I have been three days setting fans up to dry her out. Note to self: stay by the hose when filling and don't over fill!

Dang. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you have he right recovery plan and a good new chunk of knowledge. I picked up about 600 new ones this weekend :-)
Good luck!

You need to check out where it leaked in at. I don't think you should get anything wet inside, all the water should of been kicked to the outside overflow, that what mine does anyway.

If you push the hose too far into the filler and the vent next to it is blocked by something, it can overfill. Has it pushed up the floor? How did water get inside? I assume the tank is underneath (may not be) and it would be difficult for water to be inside. You'd better track that down.
There is an attachment for a hose that screws onto the end and has plastic tubing small enough to easily go into the filler without jamming in there so that air and water can come out while filling.

I'm with Gloran. On mine the excess water just spews out the inlet once the fresh water tank is full. There should be no place for the water to enter the unit unless a fitting is leaking. I'd open the area under the bed (assuming that that is where the fresh water tank is) and observe where the water is entering the unit when you reach full capacity. Do keep in mind that the water inlet is not designed to be pressurized so it can blow a coupling going to the vent line. I fill mine with a hose and funnel while leaving a small air gap around the filler hole and adjusting the flow volume so that the funnel doesn't overflow when filling. I have over filled my tank as well, but never had any water enter the unit.

Sounds like the fill hose could be leaking where it joins the tank. A common occurence on Airstream trailers. Do not know about MH's. I have had to change the fill hose on 2 trailers.

Whats the auto fill option? Is that part of the system when the main water is hooked up?

So I'm confused about how you fill your fresh water.
You said "Needed to fill my fresh water so I put the hose in the fill".
On our Land Yacht, to fill the fresh water tank you hook the "city" water hose to the rig. Then turn the fill valve. When the water comes out of the overflow under the rig, the tank is full and you switch the valve back to the normal position and you are back on "city" (or "park") water.

On mine, the "auto-fill" only fills the fresh water tank to 2/3s full and takes forever. To get a full tank I have to add water to the none pressurized filler opening.

Off Course, on our LY's the auto fill is a switch located on the Monitor Panel above the stove hood. What this switch is suppost to do is when hooked to city water at camp ground or where ever, and you want to put water in your fresh water tank, by turning on this auto fill switch it will fill your water tank to 3/4 and then turn off water filling on its own. You have the convience of not having to watch it, and if you don't like traveling with a full water tank, you don't have to keep checking the Monitor Panel to see what level you have.

On most of my trips with the LY I'm boondocking so I like to carry as much water as she can hold. Black and grey tanks empty and fresh water full is the way I leave for a trip.
Back on topic, I still feel that there must be a loose connection or a cracked water line if you're getting significant water intrusion when filling the fresh water system.

I filled mine by sticking the hose in the fill hole and forgetting all about it. After a while I hear water splashing and I look to see water gushing out from the fill hole, when I pulled the hose out water continued to gush for about a minute. I looked under the bed and the tank was swelled up really high, but no water came inside the coach.

So, are you talking about motorhomes or trailers? Both have had the name Land Yacht.
Do one or the other have the fresh water tank under the bed but on top of the floor? If so, that may explain why this thread is so mysterious to me.

I think the conversation is about the Land Yacht as a MH. This post was in the MH section so I'm assuming that all conversations are MH related.
In my 1992 36' LY the water container is located under the queen size bed and above the floor level. Some had twin beads, but I believe that the tank was still under one of the beds and above the floor.

overflow is next to the fill port
My fresh water access is behind the locked door above the tank valves, and has three things, left to right: tank fill is a non-threaded opening that I stick a hose in. Next is a small hole that blows water out when the tank is full, and third is the threaded fitting for "city" water hookup. So far, the only water inside has been from a couple small roof leaks and a bigger leak from missing caulking on the front part of the shower door/panel assembly that ran onto the floor and under the closet.

I guess they have changed things over the years. Our 1995 30' has the water hook-up/fill in the locker with the out-door shower and gray/black dump valves. The tank is under the floor in the rear.

I'm glad I am not the only one that fills the water tank and then move on to something else. No leaks so far but probably have been tempting fate!
