Post Looking at 2002 land yacht 300 hp diesel pusher

We are looking at a 2002 36 ft Land Yacht. It would be our first motorhome. What are common issues to be aware of? Are there any mechanical week points we need to pay close attention to? Are there any problems getting repair parts? Is it easy to get the windshield replaced? Any suggestions for good flat tow vehicles for this coach? Anything we should know would be greatly appreciated!

We welcome you to the forums. Most of the Land Yacht info will be found under this thread and also the Flat Front Thread (Clipper, XC, XL).
Good luck on you potential purchase.
Remember, it is up to the buyer to determine the value and condition of the unit. Take your time and look under and over as well as inside.

Post some pictures at first opportunity.

Dave

Going with my brother in law tomorrow to check this Motorhome out! Any ideas on issues to look for? We will check out the date codes on the tires, and verify that the batteries are recent. If you are aware of any "weak links", please let us know.

Thanks in Advance............

Look EVERYWHERE for evidence of roof and window leaks. Open all cabinets, check wallpaper for looseness anywhere, check for any exterior delaminating. Look for any deformities in the exterior walls and listen for solidness when rapping your knuckles along the way. Climb the roof and inspect the condition of all calk seems. Any splits could be the start of issues.

Verify all appliances are in working order.

Check genset and verify it starts properly, powers as much as you can turn on and shuts down.

Check water pump and look for any sources of leaks.

Verify that the leveling system is in working order.

Check all awnings for ease of operation and any fabric tears.

Road test unit under varying conditions and speeds to check for power train and suspension problems.

The list can continue on and on, but you get the idea.

Like any motorhome Airstream could have problems, where was it stored, when was it last used, how many miles on it?
I can say my experience looking for MH was enlightening, Airstream has oak cabinets throughout, top fixtures and in general well put together.
All fixtures are from other manufacturers, chassis is not Airstream so what you will be looking at is a MH assembled at Airstream, they have quality craftsmen and try to use good product but market prices determine how much can be put out, biggest reason they aren't producing them anymore.

Thank for the replies..... the in-laws now own a Airstream 360 XC.

I am a little upset! I test drove it with them, and I was 100% blown away on how easy it is to drive, with plenty of power.

It makes me now know that my old Bluebird requires much more effort to drive. Just a little envy!

On our way home with our motorhome. Spent some time with sister and brother-in-law doing some things to it, then a few days of dry camping For a few days. We learned a lot! Many thanks to them for all their help and support

First big trip in our land Yacht

Here ia my first picture of our 2002 Land Yacht. We are out on our first big trip. We are learning all kinds of new things about RV travel and our motor home. We have taken one short duration experimental trip and learned lots. Guess we are going to be learning new things every day for a long time We are in Westfir OR for a few days, then on the road again.

Your new home on the road.

Good looking coach! The more you use it the better you'll like it and the more things you'll want to do to it. Have fun, that's what its for. Once you park it and loose interest it will deterioriate, so don't park it for long.
Welcome to the Forum.
