Help with step please

Hello, We have a 2004 Land Yacht gas motorhome, 31'. Our front door blew off the door closing piston in the wind about one year ago. We had it repaired by a handyman but then the door opened completely up so it swung right up against the passenger seat frame.
We fixed the door (or at least we thought we did haha) by replacing the piston, but the piston was a bit too big and it bent the door frame a bit a the bottom. When the door is closed there is a bit of a warp to it.
Now the automatic step that opens and closes when the door does will not stay under the rig when we are driving. We turn off the step by the panel switch just inside the door but it does not keep the step under.
So when we are driving the step just keeps going in and out of its own accord.
We have been hesitant to strap the step under in case we burn out the motor.
We cannot find the fuse for the step - my husband has looked everywhere.
My nerves are shot and we both feel like idiots.
We are in the middle of a trip right now and would just like to disengage the step. Any ideas???? Thanks, Shelagh

Hi, I had a similar problem, I understand the frustration. I had to go underneath the rig and find the electrical plug to the motor. With the step in the desired position I unplugged the motor connector to keep the steps locked in that position. That was temporary until I reached my destination then troubleshot the problem. If your door frame was bent it may be causing the activation switch to be pushed when it shouldn't be.
