Fiberglass Roof Removal?

Does anyone know if I remove all roof attachments will the fiberglass come off in one piece or will the luan want to come with it? If it breaks apart should I just use EPDM to replace it?

Unless the fiberglass roof is damaged with holes and cracks, I would not remove it. First job is to clean it and identify any problem areas. Next is to reseal around all the openings cut for AC, vent pipes, frig, skylights, vents, etc. Then seal the two end cap seams and base of your antennas and sat dish. Some owner have applied an elastimeric coating that works very well but surface must be clean and dry.

Is your interior roof headliner falling down? Its common with age for these units. There are many ways to fix that depending on how much is coming down.

Question

The lauan plywood is vacuum formed to the framework & insulation of the roof. The fiberglass roof is glued onto the outside of the same framework. Why would you remove it?

There was extensive water and carpenter ant damage throughout the entire roof. I started Wenesday and finished yasterday. I pulled the entire roof off ( top and bottom). Luckily the cross member supports on these are metal so I didn't have to rebuild those. I wish I could of kept the fiberglass top and coated it but the luan glued to it was soaking wet and rotted. There were holes through the fiberglass from a ice storm.

Yes, 1.5" foam board from home depot. You essentially need to because that with the luan makes up all the strength for the roof. I am also going to coat the roof white to keep some heat off of it. Now I just have to paint the ceiling inside and then apply sand paint to it.

That's quite a job. Are you going to coat the exterior luaon or cover it then coat? Maybe something like FRP? Is there any side wall damage coach.

Wow...that's an amazing repair job. I hope your taking lots of progress photos along the way. I am especially interested to see how your new interior roof comes out.

Mine has never leaked but the vinyl headliner is sagging in 2 places. After seeing the 2018 Airstreams with aluminum roof interiors, I almost wish I could simply retrofit a cut piece into my bedroom ceiling for the same effect.

Been slow moving now that I am back at work after my vacation. But here are some recent pictures after the ceiling being textured and painted. Still have to install the a/c and trim around the light fixtures.
