Ever wonder what's behind the dash??

Took dash apart this winter. Both sides. Lots of screws (and some gentle tugging on driver's side )to remove.

One of the reasons that I took dash apart was to see if I could relocate the radio to the passenger side of the dash so dear wife could handle. I find it too hard to adjust when driving down the road. It was a no go; there is a metal reinforcing bar just under the glove compartment that make it impossible. Putting under the dash on the passenger side is way too low. vents are to the left and right of compartment.

Did find air hoses for the heating/a/c vents kinked. rerouted a couple and reformed the kinks.

When I had the dash apart, looked for that 110v outlet that some have reported behind those vents near the floor in front of the passenger seat and couldn't find it.

Turns out I have 3 speed fan as well. switch works at position 1 (Low) but not at position 4. should be reversed but I left well enough alone. position 3 is high. weird.

Not too much holding in/up rear view camera. heavy little beast but just screws from dash plate hold it in/up.

Took out cigarette lighter and replaced with proper 12v oulet. also installed 2nd 12v outlet in dash over by passenger wall. That gives me three 12v outlets up front.

Putting dash back together was ok just had to gently pry driver's side to refit and then screw back in.

Check out the Jensen gimble mount single din for mounting your head unit. I didnt want to mess with a dash mount and used this on top of the dog house. Not a bad alternative.

Another option is buying a radio that has a remote control. The display may not be easy for your co-pilot to see, but at least the controls will be in the palm of her hand.

woodytwo -- My 110v outlet is behind a carpeted, wooden panel that is just behind the firewall. It is under the dash and just above the floor on the passenger side. The lower part of the panel has a vent at just above floor level. The panel is held in by four (as I recall) screws that blend in with the carpeting. The existing outlet was mounted to the right around the wheel well.

Another place for the navigator to operate the radio from is the right side arm rest panel with the electric window switch. Ours is mounted vertically with the face pointing straight up. Filled the old radio hole with a flat piece of white plastic.
Speakers for the entire Roadhouse are controlled from the navigators seat. That gives her lots of control, be we still don't use the radio as much as we would if I was in control.
Problem is the navigator is often in the living area instead of the cockpit, hence no tunes!
