Engine Coolant Flush

Has anyone done a flush and more importantly what antifreeze was used? Seems I have seen a thread regarding the use of the OEM stuff which has caused some problems. My ASLY2000 is probably in need of one as the last by PO is unknown.

Thanks

Steve

I had mine done soon after I bought it from the original owner: did all the fluids, but actually didn't ask the shop what they used. It is red stuff in the overflow tank. What problems does the OEM product create? (8.1 liter V8 with Banks upgrades.)

I can't find the thread, but it seems that the red stuff hunks up the works. My mech says that over time the ph of the coolant becomes more acidic and can corrode the rad and other engine parts as the water pump. So it seems that one should either check the ph every year or change the antifreeze every 2 years. The red stuff is the Orem coolant.

OK here is an update:

Because I could not dispose of the old coolant environmentally safe, had my mech do it. They put in a "kit" which breaks down any crud and a conditioner. The engine nis then run to circulate the stuff.

Cooling System Flush Kit #WW16K assume a NAPA number.

6 units of Celsius coolant concentrate = 6 USGal of coolant. Plus conditioner.

Note this is for a gasser and NOT diesel. The coolant is a universal type (green)
