Do all P30s have auto park?

I was just under my monster and all I saw that goes to the brake drum on the drive shaft was a cable. Am I missing something? Could I not have the infamous Auto park?

No the early models do not. I do not know if all the later models had auto park or if it was an option.

Autopark is generally found on units with Allison transmissions.

Not really. I've been warned that it does not lock in place like the awl in an automatic transmission. I've parked it once on a bit of hill with the brake set. I wanted to see how well it held. With the shifter in neutral, it wanted to roll for a couple of inches. I guess its meant to assist the transmission. I carry wheel chocks just in case I need to park on a hill.

I am always in the grass, dirt or gravel. So wheel chocks are a must.

autopark

Your 33 ft does not have parking pawl. Your only parking brake is the drum on the drive shaft. My 96 33ft with 454 engine with 4 speed automatic has auto-park.. Take your Vin # to a Chevy dealer and they can tell you what type of auto park system you have. One system is tied into the Hyd pwr steering pump and another is has a self contained hyd pump system. Do a Google search on Auto Park P-30 and the stuff their will blow your mind. If you have a ford chassis in don't know what kind of brake you have.

I saw no hydraulic systems near the drum. Only a cable that leads to the pedal .

Auto Park

I had a lot of problems with my 95 auto park system. Finally got it fixed and it works great. Go to GM/WORKHORSE AUTOPARK BRAKE SYSTEM SKINNER RANCH on Google. "OldusedBear" wrote a pretty good description of this system. I still think your rig has an early version of Auto Park tied into the Pwr steering system. If not I apologize for the bad info. I was also told that workhorse chassis over 16000 GVW don't have a park pawl. The vehicle is too heavy for the pawl to hold it. If your rig is under 16000 you might not have the Hyd system. Right now I'm getting confused. If you don't have problems with the parking brake holding, say a prayer, because the Auto park system is problematic and not many mechanics know the system. Nice chatting with you. This is how we keep these old rigs running

No problem, you had me thinking. I am planning a long trip and was trying to study most of the problems and the auto park was one of them. I was puzzled when all i saw was a brake drum and a brake cable going to my driver floor board. I called two chevy dealers and a heavy truck repair and they looked up my vin and all three said the same thing. Better safe than sorry.

Yep, same here. I followed the cable up through the floor to the hand brake mounted on the floor.
