Diesel engine compartment

For those with a diesel pusher, we gain access to the top of the engine by opening the bed platform under the queen bed in the rear.

Unfortunately, after some large visitors on my AS ...the bed platform cracked and collapsed causing the mattress to have a soup bowl effect and only allowed sleeping in one low spot.

This past week I finally tore everything out and found the bed platform frame made out of 2x2 posts stapled together. Insulation was Styrofoam inbetween 2 thin pieces of paneling and thin rubber strips along the edges. Needless to say......I now know why the bedroom was always hot after road trips and how ants were getting into the unit.

Took lots of photos of my repairs but having trouble uploading. Basically I took the whole thing apart. Replaced/added insulation; replaced the damaged 2x2, added more crossbeam support, and had a new layer of plywood screwed to the top section to provide additional support for the mattress. Used a high grade HVAC metal tape to wrap all the sides and replaced the old thin rubber strip with a wide foam strip similar to whats used on trucks beds with camper. Adding the plywood made it much heaver but its a lot more sturdy now. No more sagging or bending.
