Closet changes

More storage: Living here in Florida, we don't use many clothes that need to be hung up, so I removed the closet rod and put in shelves. They provide a lot of storage space.

Any LY owners that have repainted the exterior refrigerator vent cover? (the large roof one) Ours needs a touch-up & the color match paint we've purchased doesn't look like it will cover. It's very thin & runny. Any experience? Advice? Ideas?

I thought you had one of those solar panel style on your fridge top vent?????? Did you have a problem with it??

You could always just pinstrip it with your choice of colour?

Our solar panel is on the roof. It's fine. It's the sides of the vent cover that are the problem. Ours is painted the color of the MH. Paint over a plastic (?) cover. I'm thinking the paint we purchased might be ok if we prime the cover with a bonding type primer. Just thought someone might have already tackled this & had a plan that worked.

Here's the only picture I could find of the cover that needs repainting. Kind of hard to see, but, zoom in. It's the cover to the left of the pipe looking vent.

I had looked at that picture and it looked flat on top. That indicated to me that it was a solar panel on top?

I see now yours is different from this Camco style.

Paint

Lowes and Home Depot sell a spray paint for plastic (in spray can). Just choose a day with no breeze, mask a good distance around, and apply a few coats. That should hold well.

I know what you are talking about. I purchased the original Sherwin Williams paint for doing touch-ups for my 2004 Land Yacht 30 SO. If it's metallic silver like ours the Sherwin paint code is UFN: 2145675 5A-54189-00-B Code: TU It's called Silver Frost Metallic. You have to purchase the urethane hardener DH656 too. You can also get a reducer DR 732-736 if needed. Of course you are going to have to prep the plastic with a primer but the folks at Sherwin can tell you all about that. They also give out a cheat sheet on the procedure. My paint codes were on the inside door of the closet next to the fridge. Good luck.

Hi Colin. I've got the paint codes but when I phoned Sherwin Williams they indicated that the paint was unavailable for some reason that I cannot remember. This was last year. How and when did you obtain your touch ups?

I went to my local SW dealer with the three codes on the wardrobe door. They didn't have a clue what they meant. They thought they were probably from their automotive group which only sell to car dealers.

Thats what Sherwin told me too but they figured it out. You will notice the slight difference in part numbers from Airstream and the paint code I gave you from Sherwin. If you like I can give you pictures of the info of each paint. I got mine about 4 months ago. That silver is actually a color Ford used back in 1997. Well thats printed on the label anyway. The colors match perfectly with my coach. However it was not cheap. Cost about $100 for 3 pints, and hardener. But having said all this you can purchase a can from home depot that is silver that is made to spray on. plastic for $7. I had to do touchups on the body so I needed the exact match. Good-luck!

Thanks Colin for your purchasing info. I too need to do some touchups. I'll take your advice and give SW a call again.
Also I'll put a call in to the A/S factory and try to get some direction from their shop people. They have to be getting the paint to match up for repairs.
If I can't get the 3 pints there, I'll go to my bodyshop friend down the street and see if he can get it.
BTW, I've got the blue, gold, silver combination of body paint.

Progress report…
Wish we had posted before ordering the paint from an auto place. Our color-matched paint…doesn't match. It's almost a blend of the 2 lighter coach colors, which still makes it a darker shade than the original vent cover. What to do? We could go ahead & use it or just leave the primer for now. All the other roof covers are painted the main body color. Just doesn't look right (to my eye) to have one a different color. We have the tan/beige/gold color combination.

Ok have the pictures. Yes i think the problem is I found an automotive Sherwin Williams store. That would be the key. Let me know if they post. My coach is black silver and gray.

Ok see my previous post of the pictures. I think you have to find a Sherwin Williams automotive store. They only do automotive paints.
