Winter Camping

Well back in Sept we purchased a 1987 345 . About three weeks we took her out on a shakedown , now this is after rehabbing engine cooling system , replacing exhaust with 2 1/2 flow masters , replaced flooring , mattress ,repairing lighting and etc . Winterized her and with in 24 hours my wife wanted to "go out again" . Got home and winterized ... 36 hours " lets go again" . Now , "we are going to take it to mom's" that would mother-in-law , for Thanksgiving and this time in a northeast storm . I'm getting real good at winterizing the old girl . But it's too cool having a Classic Airstream with pipes .

Sounds like a motor home to me.

We enjoy multiple trips in the winter as well. We use about 1/3 gallon when we winterize. Here's a link to a the thread that gives details. Of course we drive weather permitting. Ride out the storms in a rest area. Get a pull through spot so you don't have to worry about getting out. The 9 foot overhang of the 345 gives you a 9 foot running start to get out. I carry chains too just in case.

We traveled back home in nasty weather after picking our motor home up last December. We had now choice since we encountered the storm on the road. I will say, although I do not like to drive in those conditions due to safety, it handled just as well if not better than my 2500! I was rather impressed with the P30 handling.

Update on " winter camping " found no real foul weather , weather man most have been hitting the shine again . There was some wind and rain , the wind was like 35 to 40 mph gust , fun to drive in but that was about all .
Everyone feel in love with the old girl and those pipes , you know like those twins . Guess all we really are just some good old red neck in us . But I've got a nice little spot for a winter camp out in the snow . Of course that means that we need to get snow this winter . I think it would be cool waking up with snow on the ground , but then 50 degs and it all melts .

Thanks for the link with those cold weather tips . I got it down to about 2 gallons to winterize . I also drain hot water tank and the rest of the system . Once drained I blow out system with air under 35 psi form the curd connection . Then pump anti freeze thru out . I pour it into the drain traps and into gray and black tanks . The last trip I was able to reclaim about a gallon , maybe some over kill but I have enough projects on her to have a frozen line repair .
