Windshield replacement - Detroit

Turns out the crack in the passenger windshield (1987 MH 325) is too large to pass safety certification.

Looking to have an install done in Detroit(assuming that I won't be able to access one in Southern Ontario).

Can anyone kindly recommend a shop in the Detroit area that can provide this service?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

This is what you need.
And use a ton of Gojo for the slip and slide and plastic tools.
Never used them. But give them a call.

Contact any competent auto glass shop, even better call a local trucking company and ask who does their windshields. They can source the glass through their commercial suppliers, which is probably where the RV supply get it and then resale. I just had a friend do both windshields and new gasket and it only took about two days to get the glass and gasket.

If you mean does it fit other brands of motor homes I don't think so but it may. I don't know the glass industry but I replaced my windshields a few years ago and the guy came out and got the numbers in the bottom corner of the glass and it took him about 3 days to get the glass and he installed them in my driveway with a new gasket. I have a friend who did the same thing about 2 months ago. He did mention that the glass is the same in all the classic Airstream motor homes.

Airstream windshields are also used in the Argosy motorhomes.

Other than that, they are absolutely Airstream products "ONLY".

Also, when replacing those windshields, replacing the gasket and gasket lock, should be done, which avoids the issue of breaking the new windshield, even by professionals, due to the old gasket having aged out and becoming very hard.

Exchange rate will hurt on this one.

PS If you're ever in the Guelph area PM me for a meet as I have a friend with a 325 turbo diesel as well as my 310 turbo diesel.

Tony, the link above really surprises me! I have always been told that other than the windshields all of the glass on the Argosy/Classic coaches was no longer available. Even more surprising is the prices aren't sky high. They aren't cheap but the alternative is definitely worse.

Thanks for posting!

Brad

Brad, it appears that demand created a new supply of all these window/glass items, including the Windshield gasket, that was NLA for a few years.
Onward...

Awesome comments guys, thanks so much.

That is by far the best price I have found on this item.

Any suggestions on installation experts in the Detroit area?

Call to "Airstream Supply" revealed they no longer have access to the gasket.

Any other sources for the gasket? Factory does not have as well

Coach Glass only sells to Glass shops and RV dealers.

They do not sell to retail customers, as per them.

They told me the same thing a while back. If the glass installer is having trouble sourcing the rubber they can contact Coach Glass and they will likely sell to them. I thought I saw somewhere that someone got a gasket from Coach for $150. When
I called them they said they only sell to glass shops and the price was $300
