What's in your TOOL BOX?
Thought I would ask what tools and/or parts you carry with you in your MoHo? I'm going to take the Beast on a road trip to Colaws and figured I better have the basics on board.
Also, the Beast doesn't have a spare tire, jack, lug wrench etc. I assume this is because it is safer to have some kind of road-side assistance that specializes in RVs, trucks, etc.? If that is the case, is there a preferred company that most of you use?
Thanks!

Tool Box
As far as tools go....I'm one who believes you can't take too many tools with you....but it never fails that you won't have the one you need when you need it.
I agree with the tire tools being left at home.....I would sure hate to try and change a tire on the side of a busy highway. I do carry the tools with me plus a spare but I also have Sams Club Emergency Road Service Card. I forget what it cost per year...I think around 80 dollar per year....but they will sent help to you no matter where you are . And it is unlimited mileage towing if you need to be towed....plus you don't pay a nickle....you just sign and go. They don't tow you to Joe's Ally Repair either....They take you to a good RV repair place. And as they say....if its 100 miles or 500 makes no difference....they pay the tow. I figure even if I never use it....and I hope I don't....but it is great peace of mind to know they are there.

No MoHo here, but I carry a tool box in my TV with 1/4" and 3/8" SAE and Metric socket sets, the usual assortment of pliers, screw drivers, and allen keys, and a 0-200lbs torque wrench with the appropriate socket to fit my trailers lug nuts. I also keep a digital multi-meter handy, a tire pressure gauge, an OBD-2 code reader, and an IR thermometer. I always have cable ties, tape, hose clamps, and other odds and ends as well. This stuff lives in my van, not just for towing.

All the above, and a nice assortment of light bulbs, duct tape, and velcro.

No MoHo here, but my father-in-law always said it could always be fixed with duct tape & vise grips. On our last camping trip I broke the front window, so I duct tape the screen inside & out. It worked fine for the 3 hour ride home. Guess he was right. Last month I just picked up my father's old wooden tool box, for the AS, of course.

Good list - certainly coming up w/some things I would not have thought about! As for the flat tire issue, is it a problem that my rig doesn't have a spare tire or even a place to keep one? Do you just tell the good folks at Sams Club which tire is bad and they bring a spare? Guess this shows you how much of a neophyte I am...
Thanks

I personally would feel better with a spare onboard.

On the 345 MoHo, I am assuming there are different rims and tire sizes for the front vs the tandems vs the tag axel? If this is true, do you decide to only carry a front spare?

I'm not a MoHo guy, but I would be surprised if they are different. Truck fleets like everything the same. Why don't you check the tire sizes on the sidewalls? That should give you some idea.
Best of luck on your road trip.

If you have a flat on a front tire, you remove one of the rear tires, mount it on the front, and continue to a tire repair shop at reduced speed.

Don't you flip the front wheel outward to put it on the back, and vice versa (depending on the location of the rear flat)? Seems to me I have heard this before.

You would put the "good" tire facing outwards on the rear, and the flat inside the truck, not on the ground.

tires
are all the same on our 345. Also think about belts, we have a larger than usual alternator and it takes a non stock belt. We also have Good Sam ERS and they are great. We broke down on a Sunday once (SOB Moho) and they towed us to a campground so we could spend the night before finding a mechanic to fix it. They are very good about giving you call backs and checking on your status. You should have a fitting in the curb side rear compartment for your air compressor, we also carry 50' of air hose and fittings to fill up our tires. Should be a fun shopping expedition at Colaws!!

Is there an assortment of rivet sizes that should be in the tool box?

Michael's not home, so I afraid I'm not much help, but I know he carries an extra fuel filter.
I, also, am a fan of Good Sam Emergency Road Service. We were stranded,in a parking lot, on a Sunday morning. They sent someone out, he took the doghouse off, and fixed the problem, and showed Michael what to do if it happened again before we got home.

We have Good Sam Road Service and hope to never use it but have heard its very good.
Volt meter, fuses, both for the chassis and the RV side. A roll of 12 gauge wire and alligator clips, electrical tape, (I know where the problems happen) set of belts, fuel filters, we have two. I carry a spare tire mounted on the proper size rim but don't ever expect to see me out there trying to jack Chummy up in the air.
I also like to always have a bottle of single barrel bourbon on board and a little distilled water. Buffalo Chase is my current favorite. Good luck and have a great time on your trip.
