What The Heck Is This?

I have had our rig for 10 or more years and have never figured out what this thing is. It is the round circle beside the glow plug button. It is about the size of a silver dollar and has an inner circle the size of a quarter with a hole in the center. Anybody know what this is???

I had a mystery toggle switch in about the same spot. I checked the back of the switch and found it didn't go anywhere. So I used it for my backup camera when I installed it.
So the question is ... have you taken your dash apart lately? Take a look, you may figure it out that way.
My vote goes for the really small beer tap.

a small electric shork

"Just a guess but it could be a button for injecting starting fluid in cold weather, some semi's and heavy equiptment have it, just a guess,,,,,,"

No, It IS the nozzle that sprays starting fluid ON to the driver.
I think the choices for starting fluids were Black coffee, Hair-O-the dog, and/or a small electric shock.

I think?

2air, U just crack me up!

Jim, its a glow plug indicator. While depressing the glow plug switch, these indicators would luminate during the heating process. Yours looks like the little coil inside is gone, but doesn't effect your glow plug circuit. I think you can still find them at heavy commercial truck suppliers. Jeff

If any of you have heard Christine Lavine's song "The Speculator" you'd think that some of it got on/in 2air...

I had thought of that but there is already a glow plug lamp in the dash. Could there have been two?

I did like the other answers better. Small beer tap, coffee spraying on driver to wake him up, Lawrence Welk bubble sprayer, ect.

3is'

do you mean christine lavin?
do you mean these words:

We're never ever bored when we're ridin' in the Ford
Cause we have a Speculator on the dash
It doesn't pay the bills or assist you up the hills
And it isn't gonna save you if you crash
But when you pass a dairy now and then
You find that you are wondering again
What's that little shack by the barn around the back?
You can turn the speculator up to ten

Could it be a shed where the farmer keeps a bed
For the guy who comes to help him with the cows
Betcha it's a shop with a grinder and a strop
For the day they hafta sharpen up the plows
A shanty for the pluckin' of the duck
Or where they turn the cattle into chuck
Or where they find the mule when it's time to go to school
And the farmer's havin' trouble with the truck

Nothin' really like a jalopy on the pike
With the rattle of the window in the door
With the whining of the wheels and the radio spiels
And the clatter of the clutter on the floor
Then we hear a chuckle from the hood
Somethin' isn't workin' like it should
We may have to walk but judgin' from the talk
The Speculator's workin pretty good

Maybe it's the link from the pedal on the blink
Comin' off enough to wiggle and to clunk
Maybe it's the choke or the heating coil broke
Or there's someone entertaining in the trunk
Maybe its a carburetor fire
Burning insulation off a wire
I think a chunka rust coulda twisted in a gust
And be rubbin' on the rubber of the tire

that IS a funny song.....
i'm gonna sing it....
but i've never heard it b4....
so howz about you start us off.....

oh and i think that's a peter berryman tune....
she might have sung it though.....
like i said i never heard it b4...

so you think it got on me?......

like this...\/

maybe it's a salve
for the rash that i have
or it could like a block for the sun
but it keeps out all the fun
till ya wash it off with soap
hangin from a rope....
and hope the laughs return....
like the heat from a sunburn...
'cuz she said it was a salve
for the rash that she did have...
but is could be a big place
where the catholics go to school
salve regina is the name
and they learn lots of thangs....
and that might rub off on ya too...
going to a school named salve.....i mean

oh yea that thing in the dash
is a place to keep your cash
once it's rolled up nice and tight
you can push it in the light
and your engine keeps a goin'
on the money that you're throwin'
in the hole upon the dash
it's a place to put your cash!

cheers

Not magnetic. I had thought of a glow plug bulb, but it would have to be very small. I guess it could be a hand throttle plate. I have never seen one like that though.
