Metal Subfloor

Keyair,
Just did a complete renovation on the underside of my 1993 LY MH and my metal subfloor was galvanized having a little bit of surface rust. I spray treated the entire underside with two coats of Rust Cutter and then repainted the complete bottom. (sounds a bit extreme) but wanted to try and stop any further rusting. Took a little while but finished last week. Here are a few pictures.

Underside of motorhome

While working under the motorhome I noticed this and was wondering if anyone knows what it is - or what it does??

That round disc with the cross pattern and a bunch of wires is the level sensor for your HWH leveling jacks. It's mounted on three bolts so you can fine tune it. I don't know if your system is automatic or not but on my manual system it lights up four lites. You raise the corners that are lit up and when all the lights are out the coach is level.

If you have any of that paint left feel free to come play under my coach. My sub panel is aluminum so you only have to do the frame rails and suspension.

Cheers, Dan

Dan, thanks for the info on my jacks. Actually the project took way more paint, time and work than I thought it would, and I used every bit of the paint up, sorry. But it was one of those projects that I would classify as, once is quite enough. Thanks again Randy

John, I had the IPD front stabilizer and Steer Safe installed at Gary's Safty Center in Bay City Mi. The Henderson front coil springs I bought through Camping World. I think the coil springs made a big difference in ride.

Keyair,I used all Rust-Oleum oil based paint. I tried spraying and didn't think it worked well getting into all the cracks and opening, plus hard to control and get can in right position. What worked the best was a longer handle 3" roller,(they usually come with a foam roller cover with about 1"diameter) I replaced the foam cover with a longer nap 3"replacement cover same size as the foam cover, that and a assortment of brushes from 1"to 3" mostly 1" with a wooden handle taped onto the brush handle, that enabled me to reach farther, that helped alot.Any ways it was a challenge, only good thing is you get to spend alot of time on your back. Thanks for the compliment. Randy

The Rust-Oleum was high performace oil base. The black I used was flat and the aluminum was gloss. I thought the high gloss in the black would look a little over done for the bottom of a MH, the sheen from the flat black turned out about right.
