Steve, I'm not sure the one on the right will fit in the 345 dash. The original gauges are fitted with shrouds that make them larger in diameter. I don't know that the shroud will fit that style of speedometer. I can check later today as I have one like you bought and I also have the original 345 gauges to compare to.

The first picture shows a different style of gauge than was originally used in the 310/345 series. The right gauge is from the 345. In the center is the sun shroud that slips over the gauge. The shroud requires a larger dash opening. I absolutely hate the shroud. It just makes it harder to read the gauge.



The second picture shows the sun shroud installed on the original 34 gauge.



The third picture shows it installed on the style of gauge that Steve wants to use. I found no difference in fit of the shroud on the old gauge compared to the new gauge.



If your speedometer is loose in the dash it's likely because the hot melt glue used to hold the shroud in place has broken loose. I believe this happens when someone tries to remove the dash assembly or loosens the dash assembly and tries to pull it towards the steering wheel. The speedometer cable doesn't have much if any play in it so when you pull on the dash you're pulling against the speedometer cable which then pulls the speedometer and shroud away from the dash. Both the 310 and the 345 had this same problem.

This season we decided to upgrade the interior lights removing them all three sets of six and replacing with 18 LED puck style lights. Also included was the replacement of the fans, old ones were removed and replaced with three Fantastic-vent RTB 6000. While we had the channel down why not take out the old carrier ac and put in a Dometic 15K BTU HP and run the wire to the furnace.
So collectively after gathering parts last years (fans, lights while they were on sale), waiting for a shipping of ACs to be delivered so cut the costs, we had this done at ODM where they do a great job in finding problems like the 42 yo univolt needing to be replaced and due to everything being opened. saved lots in labor.
Hope to get over there the 17th and will take some pictures as there are a few other minor things going to be done.
Lots of money in upgrades and labor one would think until you price the new ones and realize that the older ones (at least in our case) is in great shape and a lot lighter for the length.
Next step is to either polish it or re-clear coat next fall. Trying to research to see if the 72's were actually polished to the high shine that comes with the polish. But as I read it seems to be the easiest to maintain.

In the last few months I've bought the following for my 74 Argosy 20'.

Found the Argosy badges on ebay and couldn't pass them up for $25 These are the ones that go on the back and front of the motorhome.



Best of all I bought a nice new set of Doug Thorley headers that are ceramic coated. These are the Tri-Y design headers. Once the weather warms up I'll be installing them. The motor is still on the test stand so sometime in the next couple of months I hope to hear what they sound like

Just to be clear, I make no guarantee that any of these speedometers will work or are the correct one for your coach. They are close in appearance and may even be exactly the same, I just don't know. So buy at our own risk. With that said, I also have previously bought a couple of these speedometers but have not yet been able to test to see if they will work. However I have high hopes that they will

Keyair texted me last weekend with a link for these. Speedo is kinda on the works/ not works, so figured for the price, why not?
Trans temp gauge is something I've been wanting all along.

Decided when I looked at Transmission level last time, it really needed a change-out.

Been texting with Keyair, he recommended a pan with a drain plug. This arrived today, and hoping weather will cooperate (as well as time) I'll be able to get this R&R accomplished tomorrow. If I'm able to figure it out, I'll try and video-tape the process, or at least get a few photos.

Are you going to flush transmission when you change the pan ? I would take parts to a shop that does transmission flushes and they could do the install . Then you could post pictures . . . paying bill it would money well spent . Transmission guy told me that you should do a flush every 25,000 miles not what factory says 75,000 .

Since I have no idea when or if this transmission fluid has been changed, I have no plans on a transmission flush. My Dad did the flush on his transmission for the 1st time ever, well over 100,000 miles, only to have the transmission completely fail less than a month later.
Since I'm unaware of any transmission fluid change EVER with my motorhome, I will drain existing fluid, change out filter, make sure pickup tube matches new pan, and since new transmission pan now has a drain plug, I'll be changing the fluid often.
My thoughts are that if the fluid is original and never been changed, there's a LOT of gunk in there that may or may not be a good thing. Flushing it out could cause all sorts of havoc on transmission. Going to leave well enough alone for now.
When I find a Cummins diesel, I'll be replacing the whole thing anyway......lol

I apologize for posting this under motor homes instead of "What have you done for your Airstream today".

However, I must admit, you guys are all over it in keeping these classics going. I had the chance to view the 1995 (?) diesel for sale at Bates RV just prior to them selling out in Nov 2013. They had reconditioned it to include the holly and teak floors. Man was that a tempting buy.

I saw that 95 Diesel pusher at Bates. What a sweet ride it was. A few things I liked about it over my 345, and a few things I didn't. Biggest thing was the asking price! Geez! Over 100 grand??

Still it was a beautiful rig. Saw it again last month at Tampa RV SuperShow at Fairgrounds. Guessing that new owners of Bates haven't lowered asking price, lol

We got our AS a parking spot today. We're good for 30 days at least. PO had done the hitch up for us. We did the off load today and didn't lose any fingers or toes and the shiny side is up. I guess we did it right

Can't wait for the first outing. Wide world of wandering, here we come.

Ok,
So I never understood why Airstream installed the shower control that I have in my motorhome. You have to turn knob all the way getting full flow of hot water, and then add in cold to get to temperature needed. So we only have a 6 gallon hot water tank, but I'm using it at full force in order to have a shower. After removing old shower water control, I spent the next two days trying to locate a faucet where I can control water flow as well as have control over hot and cold water. HD let me down on this one, but thank goodness Lowes is across the road.....lol

I got a new spare tire.... The tires on the moho were new (put on and manufactured) in the spring of 2012. The spare was not replaced. Since I haven't really driven it since I brought it home in Dec 2012, figured i would replace the spare before I take it on a real good drive after I put the drivers chair back in this week-end.

The spare date of manufacture was 1999! Yikes, How did I miss that.

Were you fortunate enough to have the spare tire wrench? Found mine, after I went to HF and purchased the HUMONGOUS socket. 1 1/16 I believe. Sure that it will come in handy some day. Hoping you have a bottle jack that will handle the weight of the motorhome if you do need to change out a tire. Better yet, a Good Sam membership is even better, lol.

With a little break in the weather I was able to finish the back splash. Used a small metal tile. The last time I tiled a back splash I used Aspect subway tile. The adhesive on it was not strong and I had to use construction adhesive. This time it seemed to stick. Time will tell.
Still need to find some trim for back corner as I was not happy with how the corner came together. It's not awful but with the curves it was hard to get a seamless look.http://www.airforums.com/forums/atta...1&d=1393300926

My mailbox gave me 2 things this week...
Teleflex engine oil temp gauge... need to figure out what sender unit it needs though...



Next it was a replacement Tach...



Now, I may have messed up...
The tach I got does not have a conventional Coil pickup...
It looks like it uses some feedback or connection from the alternator.
I have not idea what the stock OEM tach fitted to Motorhomes used, and wont know until I pull mine out... so if someone knows...
Worst case, it was a waste of $15...
