ID:	193627Okay guys, so this isn't an engine part or even some neat electrical stuff, but while camping this past weekend near the Canadian boarder, we spotted this percolator at an antique shop. Now I can have some really good coffee when camping in the wild and the polished aluminum pot felt like it belonged in the Airstream.

I think I did good here...
I heard that the windshield gasket for the Classic was/is "Out of Stock" at Airstream, with no idea when they would get more...
Mine is old and getting worse, and I was worried that when I replace the windshield glasses, I would have to reuse the old one...
Until last week when I spotted one on Ebay.... seller says he bought it a couple of years back and never used it...
It arrived today, and looks like new, fresh and flexible.
I am happy... if its the right one!

You heard not quite right.

The classic Airstream windshield gasket is not only out of stock, but it has joined the other parts that are "NO LONGER AVAILABLE".

Apparently Airstream would have to purchase a bunch of them, but they have decided not to.

All that can be done then is use the original gasket with considerable caution, since they harden with time, and can easily break a new windshield.

I think you did just great! Congratulations.

I'd like to ask a favor: could you please, before you fit the seal, take a photo of the END of the sealing rubber, to show the cross-section, and post it on the Forum. Even better if you could get some ink and make a stamping of the section, with dimensions. Either way dimensions are obviously necessary.

I know there are many different seals out there, and it seems unlikely that there won't be another one that would be at least a close fit, so armed with the cross-section we could do a search, and whoever finds the part number post it here. A good auto/RV glass shop would probably be where I would start looking.

Thanks in advance.

Will do!

I guess I got lucky...
The starting price was $60 on Ebay for the seal.... with free shipping!
I was the ONLY bidder.....

Been wanting this for a long time

Finally found a flag holder for the front of the Airstream bumper. Now, all I need to do is figure out length of J-Bolts required to mount to bumper. That and 5 long, long flag poles!

Well I didn't really get it today but I did get the frame up today. First we had to clear the area, cut down a bunch of trees and pull the stumps. Then I brought in several "ecology blocks" to form a retaining wall around the downhill sides. About 100 yards of fill and 30 yards of rock to form a base to drive on. This took more than a couple of months of hard labor. Fortunately the frame went up in one day. Tomorrow if it doesn't rain too much maybe We can get the cover on. Here are a few pictures.

I bought this used and the guy had about 8 guys there to take it down. This was several months ago and without instructions and just the Mrs. and me, it was kind of a guess the best way to put it together.

Once we got the end started it actually went pretty well. Here is me tightening the last bolt and the finished frame.

Looking good Dan. But it will never be big enough!

Keeping the weather off our toys is always a big challenge.

Did you have that 4106 converted to a motorhome?????????

Thanks Dave. I know you are on the bigger is better side but I lean toward the smaller, simpler side. Actually the coach would fit in the shop but then I would have to move out some of the cars and tractors. There is always a trade off.

We bought the bus about 30 years ago to do a conversion. That was back when the 4106 was the bus to have. Anyway we began the conversion and then started a few short trips and pretty soon we were camping in it and not getting much work done. We were living in Los Angeles and took it up to the Expo in Vancouver in 1986. Took the ferry over to Nanaimo and spent a few days driving around your neck of the woods. Anyway we put lots of miles on it and had some great times but never finished it and life goes on and now it just sits.

Covered parking in our carport.

Either it shrunk or we measured wrong, but after parking it out in the driveway for 2 years because it was slightly too big to fit in the carport, imagine my surprise when my husband backed it right in after our weekend trip!!

That really looks great! Did you do the job yourself or find someone to do it professionally? What about the bathroom?

Professionally done. Doing everything but front cabin. Got a bid from local RV dealer and they wanted to charge mechanics wages ($105/hr) to lay floor. The amount of time they projected seemed excessive, + 24hrs. Bought product from HD and purchased carpet for bedroom from flooring company and having their installers do the work. Remove and replace labor = $900. Based on what they got done yesterday, probably < 16 hrs of labor. And my knees don't hurt.

Cutting Boards

Turns out the Corian sink covers are quite fragile broke on the last trip after getting dropped on the floor. Thought it would work well to make a dual purpose cutting board/sink cover. I picked up some 1/2" HDPE (high density poly ethylene) and machined some groves to drain any liquids into the sink. Think they will work quite well.

Hutton Metalcrafts

We drove past this shop on 940 near Pocono Pines, PA today and found the most beautiful, handmade items of all sizes.....in copper and pewter, two of our favorite metals.

I had difficulty copying the web address, but if you google them it comes right up.

Lamps, wall hangings......bear, moose, fish, pine trees, etc., each handmade and unique. Beautiful pewter Christmas ornaments, too.

We bought one of these about 8"high for the Interstate (and a small moose) and a larger one for our stick house.

If you are near, there are many more small items in the store than can be seen online, and items are also cheaper.
