Yes you can!

I did it 5 years ago on carfax when we bought our 310. I found out that when it was sold in TN from KY, the missed a digit in the VIN number. I was able to get it corrected when I registered the rig. I found info on both of the numbers, but not back to 82. Can not remember, but think it was the early 90's.
