What car do you tow?

In the market to purchase a new car that we can tow behind our 310 with all 4 wheels down. Getting mixed info that all manuals can not and some auto trans can and even some 4x4's can. How do you know what's the right car? The dealers are no help at all.

All Jeeps with a Transfercase can be flat towed (all wheels down)...

And you have the fun of a Jeep and life time drive train warranty...

An additional concern is the 2000# max tow rating of the classic MH. We flat tow a Scion XB with manual transmission. Not the current model (which is heavier) but the previous model which weighed ~2500#.

Motorhome magazine has a listing of flat towable vehicles.

Remco Home | Remco Towing offers products to allow towing of vehicles which can not be towed stock.

We towed a VW Thing for the first couple of years. It was a fun car and only weighs 2000#s. But as for creature comforts and safety, it was sorely lacking.
We went ahead and got our hitch upgraded to 10,000 #s and now tow a 2600# Mini Cooper S. It's a great, fun car and tows well. Ron

How about a toyota pick up. Some people on these forums think they can tow anything, so if you pull one and your M.H. breaks down hey you will be able to push it. Thats at least according to them hahahahahaha

I have seen about every type of vehicle being towed behind a motor home. including a half ton chevy.

'99 Suzuki Vitra 4X4 automatic, 4 cyl. Has neutral in the transfer case. Don't weigh much over 2K. Did pull a '91 Toyota SR-5 standard pickup and before that a '86 Subaru 4X4 wagon. Haven't pulled the back off the 'Silver Bullet' yet. Do need to get a "Brake Buddy" or something like that. It's on my 'bucket list'

We tow a 1976 Porsche 912E behind our 345. We use the NightShift tow bar unit, works great. We do get a lot of looks towing the old Porsche behind the old Airstream!

Thanks to guy99 for the info to check out Motorhome Magazine. We were able to download the specs on what vehicles can be towed. Very helpful. After dealing with the dealers for a few weeks it was nice to have some answers infront of you. Glad to here that str8strm tows a Mini. Although that was not on the list to tow it was one of the cars we were very interested in, that, and the VW New Bug. We have owned vw's forever. Currently have a 1991 vw 7 passanger vanagon just for fun and own a 07 Rabbit, (very nice car), for daily use. But there is one thing with the newer vw's, they don't want to be towed with all four down. Which brings us to our secound choice, the Mini Cooper!!! After research we found out that we can bring our kayaks and bikes with us on the Mini and pull it on all four wheels with no problem. It gets up to 40 mpg on the highway, and 3 free years of service. Couldn't resist. Were picking our Mini up tomorrow!!!

Mark, you can also look at the new (07-08) Toyota Yaris. We have a sedan model with 5-speed manual shift and we get 47 mpg (for real) when driving (40-44 in town). Weighs a tad over 2000# and you never know it's there.

After the new engine, addition of the GearVendor (not for towing) I'll be pulling a modified tandem axle trailer with the Silver Sled behind.

Fiat 500 tow car

I recently sold my AI and the buyer didn’t want a tow car. So my Fiat 500 already set up with the top of the line Roadmaster tow system is for sale. Read all about it here.

Thank you. Marty
