Water Tank Cover Removal

I'm developing an area of corrosion on my gray water tank cover. Do the covers hold the tanks in place or are they hold by their own straps? I would like to remove only the galvanized cover to inspect for leaks and repair the corrosion before it becomes more than surface corrosion.

This is on my 95 Classic 360.

Thanks, Dave...
