Water system upgrade

My old sureflo pump had a slow leak that would accumulate 2-3 drops of water after every shower in it's storage compartment. The pump worked just fine, but the leak was in the head unit. I found a head unit replacement on Amazon for $45. Much cheaper than replacing the whole unit, so then decided I would upgrade with the silencing kit and accumulator.

Before my pump would be heard throughout the coach as that comforting rumbling. Then when using any faucet and after the first 1-3 seconds of running the pump would kick on and the stream would pulse in time to the pump's revolutions. Once I turn the pump off it would continue to run for 4-5 seconds to pressurize the system.

Now when I turn on a faucet I have a 10 second delay before the pump turns on, it will maintain steady pressure for any duration, and is much quieter. Then when the pump comes off it runs for 1-2 seconds. Best of all, no water drips to clean up as part of my shower routine.

I am very pleased with this upgrade. Only regret is that I did not do it sooner.

Looks like what you did was install an accumulator. A small 2 chamber tank with a rubber diaphragm between the chambers. Depending on the amount of air pressure you inject on the air side will determine how often the pump cycles while drawing water from a faucet.

That is a very good upgrade. Pretty simple to install and well worth the benefits.

Previous owner of our Avion installed a stainless accumulator. Looks good, works good.

Any recommendations on pumps? I would like to get the latest from Shurflo.
Obviously 12v, but what is the hose size, psi, gpm... I want to be sure that too much psi will not damage all that impossible to reach hosing.

The Revolution 3gpm 55 psi looks about right...

Thanks, Sebas

I installed that surflo revolution pump, 3gpm 55psi. Ive not been real happy with its flow rate. Ive adjusted it according to the directions and still seems weak to me. One thing to note before you purchase is that pump is recommended for a minimum pipe size of 1/2". All my pipe is factory 3/8". I didnt notice that spec until after I installed the pump. Im not sure if thats contributing to the weak flow rate or not. Just one persons opinion.

I just looked at my notes to see what pump we have in the Avion. It's a Shurflo, probably an older one, but is working nicely. It is a 2gpm/45psi pump. I'm sure it is helped a lot by having the accumulator in the system.

I like the sureflo 2088 model series because they have adjustable pressure regulators. I run mine at 40psi with solid pressure, and minimal impact to the system.

I run Aquajet 55's in the Airstreams....I like a really good shower and don't like the water pressure drop when the wife turns on the kitchen (galley) sink. 85 PSI and 5.3 gallon flow
Regards, Bob

You can still get a good shower with great PSI, just get the appropriate nozzle. Of course it all depends on application. I shower in the Airstream like water is scarce.

I'll get some photos next time I'm out there. It looks basically the same, but I used stainless braided hoses I picked up at the hardware store and a small block of wood to screw the tank to as it sits a little higher than the pump.
