vintage tin can motorhomes
A while back I saw an AS motorhome that was in the shape of an AS trailer. It did not look like the newer ones and actually resembled a trailer with a driver inside. Now I find out that this is what the older models looked like. Does anyone know the model years that these were made?

Mike - they were made from 1979 to 1995, in various sizes, some few with diesel engines but most had GM 454s. They are called 'Classic' Airstream motorhomes in most writings. Owners refer to them as 'blimps' or 'silver Twinkies' or other names. You can have a look at some of them in the classified pasges of this website. -Jamie

Thanks for the info!! I just got a quick look at it but it seemed like it had a more rounded front, somewhat just like a trailer or like one of the old Trailways passenger bus's.

Thanks Folks for the pics, they are VERY nice looking! I guess a quick glance wasn't enough and if we were both on I-20 going the same direction, I would have done what was necessary to get a closer look. I almost turned around and went back but common sense overtook me as I was pulling my '80 Limited trailer at the time.
Looking around though, I saw a lot of the Argosy MH's and was wondering if that is what I saw? Although I haven't seen an Argosy with the shiney aluminum and the one I saw was brilliant.
Oh well, I would love to have one of the older AS MH's as they have much more class than the newer ones. You almost have to look at the name on the side.
Thanks again!!

Oh, yes--wicked coooool! We were shopping for our SOB for Brad to live in while he worked out of state and they had one on the lot. Neither of us were familiar with it but we IMMEDIATELY knew we wanted it. It was about $5k more than we could spend, so we settled for a very nice older Winne, but from that moment on that was all there could be for us. We were thrilled to get ours this January!

mikeeusa,
Use the link on my signature and browse your heart out. I have almost all of the motorhome models made on my site. The Argosy Units were made from 1974 to 1978. The Airstream units were made from 1979 to 1996 with a model change in 1994.
I actually got hooked on them when my wife saw "an Airstream pulling a car rather than being pulled by one!" I hit the net and started a collection of pictures of them.

What a beautiful motorhome you have. Gorgeous setting as well. Makes one want to get back out camping right now.
